So these funky spell lands....

So I pretty much took a break while I couldn't play and didn't keep up with anything that released almost this whole year. Catching up on stuff now.
Curious about people's thoughts on these lands that are also spells like Song-Mad Treachery Flip. Would you count it as a land when you build your deck or as the spell? Do you like these things? Which is your favorite? Or do you just jam them all in every deck?

Usually you are fine if you swap a few land for a few double faced ones. I count them as lands when making a deck, but I try not to jam too many of them into my decks.

I tend to assess them based on whether I'm more likely to play them as a land or spell and give them the slot accordingly.
For example Glasspool Mimic Flip is fairly wide in it's uses so I'd count it as a spell whereas Jwari Disruption Flip is more narrow so I'd count it as a land.

From experience and what I’ve learned from others, if you take out spells to use the spell lands, then you’ll generally cast them as spells. If you take out lands to put them in a deck, you’ll generally use the land half of the card. Having the option is really powerful, though.

I agree with lanzo493 above.
But it also depends on your land count. If you have 40+ lands, you will almost always cast then as spells, as you go down from 40 the chances of you using them as lands increases.
So if you have a high land count feel free to cut a couple lands for the mdfc (modal double face card) lands, if you have a lower land count it's really up to your preference what you cut.

The lands that enter the battlefield untapped, you can definitely count as lands and toss them in in place of a basic of the corresponding color. There is almost no harm in it as paying the life to have it come in play untapped rarely will affect the outcome of a game.
I would hesitate to play the lands that etb tapped unless you will play the spell side of the card as often as you play the land side.
The cards that are lands on both sides are fantastic and should be in most of your commander decks. Scoop these up now while they are cheap, because if they aren't reprinted they're going to climb in price.

A playset of a spell-land is equal to two lands and two spells in general.
Peligrad's point on the bolt lands is good in EDH. Outside EDH, you can't always fit them in because the life loss is pretty huge in 20-life formats.

Having done some testing, I've found that it really hurts the Pathways that they have no land types. I actually removed the ones I had been playing after a while... but that isn't to say that they're bad cards whatsoever, just that they aren't auto-includes IMHO

I love these cards and the creativity of them, however I have limited them to one per deck, and didn't cut any lands for them. The only one that I'm running that will be a land more often than not is Ondu Inversion Flip due to the high CMC and the chance that I don't want to hurt my own board with my Syr Gwyn deck lacking significant graveyard recursion.
Valakut Awakening Flip and Malakir Rebirth Flip I anticipate will be cast the vast majority of the time for me since they can come up clutch in their respective decks as spells.

In my opinion (gotta say that every time for this sort of thing), the best MDFC of each rarity is as follows:
- Mythic: Reanimate with Math Flip
- Rare: Wheel of Bottom Flip
- Uncommon: Sordid Salvage Flip

I think Shatterskull Smashing Flip is also one of the best.

Valakut Awakening Flip is incredibly powerful. So are a few others, and they're all great to have in the toolbox.

They count as spells in a decklist.
As a matter of fact there is a deck in Pioneer Called Landless Spy which has 0 normal lands and uses the flip/land spells only.
There are also flip creatures by the way.
I like them but haven't started using them yet.
