Unique Commanders
Commander (EDH) forum

Hey guys! For those who don't know me, I'm Tiff and I like to build fun and underplayed commanders. My playgroup has tasked me with coming up with a new deck or theme that hasn't been done to death so I wanna open up the discussion with you guys; What should I build?!
I want something crazy and unique or maybe something never been done before. Any cool suggestions or decks you've always dreamed of?
I'm super janky so anything goes.
Genju of the Realm no creatures only enchant lands is a weird example.
Or Xira Arien Oogie Boogie (Grist) all bugs.
"Sorry Capt'n, Mortus Strider keeps falling overboard totally on his own. Mogg Cannon has nothing to do with it...What?...Use Doom Cannon next time? Aye Aye, Capt'n!"
Cosima, God of the Voyage Flip fits with TypicalTimmy's suggestion.

Yeah, while blue has some amazing power cards (extra turns / counters / draw advantage / etc) but there is a WORLD of themely delicacies to choose from. I have never been much of a “blue player” but blue makes it into my theme decks with regularity. Can’t wait to see the list!!

So the above two lists are all blue or black and have BOATS in the art. These will serve as our base pool.(haha.) Anything added must be "justified"(nautical theme). Lemme know if anyone finds a boat I missed.
YAAAAAAAY

Might be better to go to decklist format at this point ;) Looks like a fun idea!

tiffanyann I don’t want to be a jerk and keep on pimping my own Briny Deep deck, but definitely take a second to go through it. There are some cards in there, like Encrust, that are super themeful and easily missed. Flavor text is one of the most important aspects of M:tG in my mind.

I actually really like Tazri, Beacon of Unity as a commander. 5 Color commander that costs 1 less for each creature in your party (first cast can be for 1 mana if you get a solid hand). Her activated ability can easily build your boardstate and get you to necessary combos, and she works super well in my dungeon crawling deck, letting me slap down several venture into the dungeon cards early.

Don't forget Vodalian Serpent and Whelming Wave are also fun, and fit in with the ship theme as well. :D

Skyfire Kirin or Bounteous Kirin
All of my suggestions (except the last) are decks I've built in the past that EDHREC has less than 100 decks on record for. I really enjoy Kamigawa stuff, and there's some room there to build really interesting things.

tiffanyann Brine Hag is (a) great art because Hoover was/is awesome, and (b) a witchy effect I hope to see again some day. I love that card!!!!

libraryjoy Same I think Kamigawa has some pretty interesting commanders and great art. I think a Kentaro, the Smiling Cat deck that utilizes Maskwood Nexus and has only Wastes as lands as a restriction could be interesting.
FormOverFunction That is an interesting card I havent heard of Brine Hag before. I’m actually building a deck that utilizes Turn to Frog affects to basically make my opponents play vanilla creatures and that would fit in perfectly.

Kamigawa was my first set, back when they were FAT PACKS and had novels. Toshiro and his adventures will always hold a special place in my heart. Also the new secret lair art for him is the bomb. I had a Patron of the Moon deck for a long time that somehow evolved into Emry Artifacts (how). I own almost every Goblin card so Patron of the Akki is an option. (But I'd build an Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician if I did gobbos cuz that art is me while deck building)

FormOverFunction hadn't seen it before the search, such a cool card. Hit her with Lure effects.

Looking over the cards I think we missed Borrowing 100,000 Arrows

Maybe both Brothers Yamazaki Brothers Yamazaki as partners? I guess it would just be mono-red aggro with some voltron pieces so perhaps the deck won't be very exotic.

Optimator I've built it before :)
Never bought the deck but it was a lot of fun to test play. Made it budget.

I like my medomi the ageless. I don't know anyone else who's built him. Double strike him and get two extra turns. Also great pillow fort colors.

I would start stacking up things like Reef Pirates and Voyage's End, for theme first and THEN start worrying about whether or not the deck can do something. Unrelated side note: this is why most of my decks don’t work.
