What would you wish for?

If you have "infinite" and mana, no cards in your library, 3 lands that can produce any color, a way to draw 1 card, and you just cast Death Wish.

What would you wish for? (Outside of Laboratory Maniac and Helix Pinnacle).

Yawgmoth's Will, assuming I've got a stocked yard, I could probably win from there.

March 29, 2016 1:42 a.m.

Already in there. I Can't Believe It's Not Golgari! for reference. But good idea though!

March 29, 2016 1:44 a.m.

uuuh

Exsanguinate?

any other exsanguinate card?

March 29, 2016 1:48 a.m.

What about anything off color? (Non-Golgari colors). Trying to find really silly ways to win for a deck.

So how are you playing Laboratory Maniac in your golgari deck? "cards outside the game" refers to your sideboard which is an extension of your deck. It still has to follow the same rules as mainboard.

enpc that's true in competitive pods however, the commander rules don't actually say you can HAVE a sideboard. So in most cases this means your collection (only if agreed upon by the group) or it fizzles and does nothing.

This comes from the "House Rules" section on the rules site: "Sideboards

Some more competitive groups add a sideboard to bring flexibility to their decks and combat some of the degeneracy. The most common structure of sideboards is:

Players may bring a 10 card sideboard in addition to their 99 cards and 1 Commander. After Commanders are announced, players have 3 minutes to make 1-for-1 substitutions to their deck.In groups whose members all use sideboards, they can also be used to wish for cards that are outside the game."

Spawnsire of Ulamog's second ability is always very fun :) Casting something beforehand to get another card in your library.

March 29, 2016 9:36 a.m.

Ooh Spawnsire looks really fun. :O I'll have to snag one.

And since our groups are casual and play for fun, wishing for whatever you want is just fine with us.

How would Chimney Imp benefit/win the game?

March 29, 2016 12:28 p.m.

Since you can't legally play Storm Crow, Chimney Imp would logically be your most viable alternative.

Seriously though, With Gitrog as the Commander, you could go big with Liliana's Indignation, Genesis Wave, or Dread Summons. You could also grab Black Sun's Zenith and get it permanently shuffled back into your library. Finally, you could get goofy with Sylvan Offering or Weird Harvest.

March 29, 2016 12:43 p.m.

I can wish up and play a Storm Crow, that no biggie. And some of the cards you mentioned require there to be cards in my library which at the time of wishing, would be 0.

Black Sun's Zenith possibly, if I want to stay alive for a couple more turns. Or maybe Blue Sun's Zenith and force everyone to draw out.

March 29, 2016 1:10 p.m.

How could you play Blue Sun's Zenith in a B/G deck?

March 29, 2016 7:51 p.m.

I have Mana Confluence, City of Brass, and Forbidden Orchard in the deck.

With Rule 4 being gone, they can now tap and produce instead of normally producing colorless.

With those 3 lands I can produce , and with the "infinite" other mana, draw everyone out.

March 29, 2016 8:22 p.m.

Well I wouldn't rely on getting 3 specific lands to cast it from Death Wish, that turns into a 5-card combo. I would say keep it simpler with a B/G card instead, or use Prosperity for the same effect with less blue devotion required. And I was asking because I didn't think you could cast a card that wasn't in your Commander's colors, but neither I nor my playgroup play with Wish cards to grab some outside card so I don't know if it applies or not.

March 29, 2016 9:15 p.m.

Wait, forget Prosperity, Dread Summons would still work here, because you wouldn't lose with a library size of zero until you were forced to draw a card. Everyone else would lose before you would.

March 29, 2016 9:18 p.m.

Or, if you still want the targeted draw, Stroke of Genius would work better.

March 29, 2016 9:19 p.m.

Since everything is in my graveyard, once I cast Yawgmoth's Will, I can put my land creatures into play like Azusa, Lost but Seeking. Yawgmoth's Will says I can "play" cards from my graveyard, which includes lands. I can just play all 3 from my graveyard and I'm good to go.

Using "we play for fun" still seems like a bad argument to include off coloured cards just for the sake of adding Whacky win conditions. The thing is, if the deck is at the point of being able to Death Wish for whatever card it wants then it has already won. Just becuase you have 10 different ways to win from doesn't change the fact that the game is already over. You may as well just use Exsanguinate or Living Death into Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord or whatever to just win. Because after the first game or two, the gimmick of being able to win with off coloured cards will have worn off and people will just scoop when they see you set up their win condition and can't do anything about it.

March 29, 2016 11:46 p.m.

Using "we play for fun" is perfect reason enough. This might surprise you, but not everyone plays only to win at any cost. Some of us also play to have fun and do ridiculous things that no one saw coming.

I appreciate your opinion, but I didn't ask to be lectured on how my playgroup plays. Everyone plays differently. Maybe your group wouldn't enjoy it, but mine does things like this all the time. If you want to scoop in the middle of the game, go ahead and do it, no one would complain if you did.

Now, as you did actually make a relevant comment to the topic instead of just bashing me for playing how I play, here is my 2 cents. For Exsanguinate, it's already in the deck, and Living Death wouldn't benefit me at all because most of the creatures are utility or combo cards for Necrotic Ooze that want to be in the graveyard. I will look into Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord since multiple people have suggested him. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Actually, enpc is more correct than you may think. Fun is relative.

For a spike, the highest level of competition available IS fun so saying "we play for fun" implies that spikes don't have fun and is, frankly, insulting to spikes. (I'm not one but...)

What is more accurate to say is that they don't have YOUR kind of fun.

Also, he wasn't at all being nasty in his comment, he was just pointing out that if you were wishing you were winning. Your response on the other hand was...... less than kind......

The argument wasn't about not having fun. What I'm saying is is that if you Death Wish for your wincon, then you're planning on winning the game. Doesn't matter what colour the card is. I guess I just don't see the point of deliberately going outside of your colours simply to add a "wow factor" to your deck.

As for the suggestion - with infinite / and Living Death, you will bring Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Triskelion back into play. This will give you access to one of your win conditions. It will also put Quillspike, Devoted Druid and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord into play. While DD has summoning sickness, you can still activate the untap ability as much as you want and since you have an abundance of mana, you can buff Quillspike to be as big as you need to sac him to Jarad.

While Yawgmoth's Will can do this as well, it provides redundancy and can also be used in conjuction with Buried Alive to go for a safer combo with Mike + Trike.

You wish for Whip of Erebos get back Nighthowler and tear someone to shreds. My personal opinion :)

March 30, 2016 8:51 a.m.

That makes sense. I will find a slot for both Jarad and Living Death.

While I know it's not really "required" to go outside the colors, I think it's just a silly win con to do occasionally since no one would expect to see a Lab Maniac in a Golgari deck. While it's true the when casting Death Wish, the game is soon to be over, people do have counter spells, so it could go on longer.

@ Dredge4life: A good idea. I would probably use Lord of Extinction over Nighthowler only due to the fact that the Lord's power is for every card, not just creature cards.

If you can wish for and produce off color mana, just Fireball everybody.

Can you wish for banned cards? Cause I think Death Wishing for a Sway of the Stars would be pretty funny, or Worldfire.

@sonnet666 in an unsanctioned event, yes, you can.

I meant in Raging_Squiggle's playgroup.

Obviously all of this is unsanctioned...
