4 Color Commander Idea

Custom Cards forum

This is just an idea, and I'm wondering if this would be playable as a four color commander.

Namian, World Devastator

Legendary Creature-Goblin Warrior

Whenever ~ deals combat damage to an opponent, search that player's library for a basic land card and then put it into the graveyard.

Whenever one or more land card enters the graveyard from anywhere, put a +1/+1 counter on ~, then ~ deals damage to target player equal to the number of land cards in the graveyard.

3/3

I'm thinking it may be too powerful when played with spells like Armageddon or other spells. Opinions?

Seem more like a Giant than a Goblin.

As for commander, I don't know... in any decks that run just non-basics it gets slightly neutered, but I think its fine.

Ok I didn't know if I should do giant or goblin. Honestly I thought about Dragon too. MY thought was that if I did any land, then it would neuter any deck that runs low amounts of basic lands and destroy certain strategies immediately.

his first ability would be irrelevant four a four color commander because mana fixing is extremely tough with mostly basics. On the other hand his second ability is great.

Commanders that encourage land destruction effects don't exactly tickle my fancy.

I also don't think I'll ever understand why everyone is so dead-set on having 4-color commanders. If you hate exactly one color so much that you refuse to play it, just play a 5-color Commander and don't include any cards of that color. If you include cards like Command Tower, Opal Palace, and Darksteel Ingot, you won't even need to worry about the fifth color's effect on your manabase.

The idea is that the first ability fuels the second ability. Like you essentially get to go through a player's library and get rid of a land. Another idea I had is that when he enters the battlefield, you get to search your library for up to 4 basic lands and put them in a graveyard. Do you think I should change it?

NobodyPicksBulbasaur it's essentially that there isn't any four colors out yet (unless your playgroup allows you to use the Nephilim). Flavorwise, a four color commander has to show that there is not much influence of that missing color, while a five color doesn't have to show it at all.

Multiplayer since generally Edh is a multiplayer format.

Unfortunately no. However I just finished a deck for him:

Land destroyer (designed general by me)

I think MaRo would say a four color card is defined by the color it lacks. Like NobodyPicksBulbasaur said, you could run a 5 color commander and not play a given color to build any deck you want, but I think it's the challenge of designing a balanced (not underpowered) 4 color card that piques people's fancy.

I think this card does a good job of lacking blue. My only critique is it should say "a" graveyard instead of "the" graveyard, and that I agree with the fact it should probably be a Giant.
