A Unique Mono-Blue Legend
Custom Cards forum

I had an idea about an hour ago. This card is for all the players who want to use blue but hate using counterspells (like myself):
CARDNAME 3UU
Legendary Creature-??? ???
If a spell or ability would counter a spell or ability, the spell or ability countering the other spell or ability is exiled instead (it doesn't resolve).
At the beginning of your upkeep, draw two cards.
1/4
What do you guys think? A mono-blue legend that HATES counterspells.
I actually thought about it being random, but that's a piece of red's color pie. If it was an Izzet-colored card, I'd do it.

Word the first ability like this:
If a spell or ability would counter a spell or ability, the spell or ability countering the other spell or ability is exiled. (It doesn't resolve.)

Edited. Now that first ability is quite a mouthful. Say that 5 times fast.

If it wasn't random, it would be completely broken. Maybe have it as a type? Either that or just nerf the second ability.

Edited again and overhauled the second ability. I had a fatty-ramp deck idea with this card while creating it, so I felt like the second ability needed to be more generic, so I turned it into card draw to counteract the inability to use counterspells.

Eh, that seems too good in a casual setting. That thing just HATES control. I say make it only draw 1 extra and make it uncounterable.

You know what would be even easier? Forget the exiling. New text:
Cards can't be countered.
Problem solved.

bigguy99 finally a card that lets me not worry about my lands getting countered.

It's completely overpowered for 4 mana, but I love it.
July 30, 2015 12:19 p.m. Edited.
Magicrafter: Perhaps. But then Well of Ideas exists.
bigguy99: I would've said:
Spells or abilities can't be countered.
That said, it does make it a whole lot simpler without it being another Perplexing Chimera.

suislecalme: It was 5 mana to begin with. Also, I might go with the bigguy's suggestion.

For some reason the thingy displays a different card now. Here's the proper one again:
As a Jeskai-fan, here's what I'd make of it, to keep the power level at bay:

The first one, for some reason, is an artifact creature on the type line.
I wasn't planning on making the card multicolored, but the second card looks pretty cool.

Well, they are, for some weird reason, both artifacts. Why did that happen. Okay, let's make the second one mono-coloured!
July 30, 2015 12:45 p.m.
That is MUCH better.
One minor nitpick: I would've said Spells and abilities can't be countered, but that would've been OP. Besides, how often are abilities countered anyway?

"If a spell or ability would counter another spell or ability, exile it instead."

ThatJunkMage: It had that clause (or something very identical to it) originally.

Spells and abilities can't be countered by spells or abilities. Otherwise, if a target was removed, when a spell tries to resolve and can't it can't fizzle because it wouldn't be able to get countered.

Well, you guys understand where I'm coming from. I'm just going to leave the anti-counterspell stuff up to interpretation.

So it's kind of like Guile mixed with Charmbreaker Devils, but not entirely? I think the wording for the second ability should be "at random". That way you can't just return Time Warp and go infinite turns.
