Here's an idea I came up with for a custom set I'm working on, and it looks hella fun to play with.
Alphapack Whisperer -
Legendary Creature - Beast - 6/6
- Hexproof
- At the beginning of your end step, put a 3/3 green Beast creature token onto the battlefield under target opponent's control. It has, "This creature must attack each turn if able."
- Whenever a Beast creature attacks you, you may have it fight another target creature.
As the alpha of this pack of beasts, he is constantly in threat of being overtaken. Everyone wants to be an alpha. Because of this, beasts constantly attack him, which is why 3/3 beasts are put under your opponent's control and must attack you. However, this alpha is still in command, so they still fight to his bidding.
This card allows green a round-about method of violence to deal with weak creatures. I felt it was too much of a downside to allow this creature to die to a main-phase removal spell, only to have given your opponent a 3/3 beast in return. It felt too weak considering how easy it would be to do that in my set as it stands currently. That's why he has hexproof, because that would never feel good. The difference that the hexproof makes is literally the difference between playable and unplayable.
This card is also full of choice-making. Do you let the 3/3 slide through and hit you so that you can get your opponent up to two 3/3 beasts, which could potentially kill an opponent's 6/6 threat? The control of combat that this gives you is extraordinary. It basically forces your opponent to attack themselves.
Anyway, that's just an idea I thought I'd share. Giving your opponent creatures with downsides is a nice mechanic that people should consider exploring more.

Sounds fun and a bit gimmicky.
