So, last week at FNM I traded and got an altered 4th edition Mana Vault and I have no idea how much it's worth in trade value. I know next to nothing about altered magic cards and I was hoping someone could give me some information about it. It was altered to have a black border and is in about Moderately played condition.

It REALLY depends on the quality of the alter, the condition of the card, and who altered it. There's no real guideline to alters as it's mostly a what-are-you-willing-to-give sort of thing. If it's just black borders, I'd say the same as a normal equivalent.

If it's just altered to have a black border (instead of a white one I presume?) then most would actually consider the card damaged. Alternately, if if actually has art extended, those who like alters would value it more highly and the small few who actively dislike alters would consider it damaged. It's an odd dichotomy.

Thank you The Annihilator and TheDevicer, and I think I was able to put up a link to the card if you wouldn't mind checking it out, thanks again.

Dumb question? Where's it altered in the picture? I don't see anything unordinary about it?

Nevermind, it's a black-bordered white-border card.

Yeah, I'd still say most people would consider it damaged. It's more or less been written on with a Sharpie, even if it is well executed. xD

Yeah, unfortunately when someone takes a sharpie to a card, all it does is devalue it.
