Call of Judgement

Eeds, the Outcast

Hoon Tall

Thaac, Prophecy's Image

Will, Taboo Child

So with messing with four color generals a bit and basing them off of the color they DON'T have, I wanted to revisit an idea of mine based on the color they are against. AKA monocolor commanders with a theme of their enemy colors. I did this one time before with the opposite end being the dual colors instead, calling them the Taboo Children. But now I felt like this would be interesting to try out.

I didn't want to go full out Xira Arien and make the card make next to no sense in the colors, so I tried a bit of an half and half in the theme. So I have the concept be based on the enemy colors, but be presented in a way that makes sense for the colors. Example being monogreen artifacts utilizing lands. Artifacts are not green but lands are.

So yeah these might be odd and OP or just not making any sense, but I personally enjoy them. You might notice the names are a bit odd, but for a little bonus for people who actually read this, read the first part of each commander's name in order of the color wheel like they appear in a rainbow card, Chromanticore as an example so it'd start with Hoon and ends with Will. Lets see how gets it first.

Anyways, what do you guys think on this kind of odd concept? There have been worse offenders of the color wheel in the past after all.

"Hoon Eeds Thaac Caller Will"? I don't get it.

...oh wait

Cool names aside, I think you kind of overdid it with Caller of Judgement. The mana cost makes sense given how powerful it is, but I'd rather have something cheaper and less gamebreaking. Perhaps change it to "prevent all but X of the damage, where X is the number of cards in your hand minus 1", so you're encouraged to keep an empty hand if you really want to go full Ajani Steadfast ultimate mode? I don't know.

Also, shouldn't Thaac's ability trigger at the end step instead of during the upkeep? The way it is, you can only get tokens out of instants and abilities like Nyx-Fleece Ram's, which is kinda bad. You don't want to tap yourself out for lifegain at the beginning of your turn, or be forced to play bad instants just for that purpose, I think.

Anyway, I really like this idea, and I like what you did with it. Good job!

Well empty hand is not Azorious at all, so that's why the handsize mattered so much for the Caller of Judgement being he represented blue and white while being red. As for Thaac, he's actually based on having the tap as a drawback in that case. Most things gave you upkeep life gain afterall, so I felt like he'd have a better place in doing it during the upkeep. Also yeah the name thing is a bit pushed, but I guess I didn't want to make it too obvious either. I personally like Will the most for some reason. I've always found green artifacts so weird that I felt like I'd want to see it work out somehow.

Call of Judgement I think goes infinite at the discard step. Besides being very, very powerful. Eds is pretty balanced, but why trample if you can just ignore the blocker in the first place...? Hoon Tall seems fine, I would actually bring up his toughness by one because he feels very fragile. Thaac, Prophecy's Image seems pretty powerful, but not broken. I might bring up his cost by one or two though. Will, Taboo Child, to be honest, seems really bad. At five mana, you have to mill yourself (in a color that doesn't really like that style of play) and you "only" add in a color that is designed for ramp... I'm a bit iffy about that one. You could probably afford to make it and bring up his power a bit. Overall, fun concepts :)

Caller of Judgement I felt like his first ability could have been enough but didn't know if it felt like he was Azorious enough...I can probably just leave him with his first ability maybe? Eeds is reflecting the ability that creatures like Tornado Elemental did in the past, which I believe the way they were you could trample over and THEN deal the combat damage, but I might be wrong. Hoon Tall I made a 5/2 to make him more Rakdos styled, I guess, but yeah he is a bit fragile I'd guess. Thaac probably should be a bit more, yeah. Will isn't exactly made entirely for you to target everything you have for the mana. You are encouraged to play artifact lands and such. But I should probably give him support towards mana rocks too somehow.
