Aslea, Greedy Summoner and Polimaar, Wealthy Wishmaster
Custom Cards forum

There is a growing number of Partner with pairings within the guild combinations. Each of the pairs has a pretty unique approach. Among the pairs we haven't gotten yet is Dimir. Thus, I tried designing a custom commander pair in Dimir colors.
Aslea is a warlock on the hunt for power, hoping to find it in wish granting artifacts. This is reflected in her ability to give wish counters to legendary artifacts.
Polimaar is a powerful djinn that got set free by Aslea. He isn't exactly malicious, but likes to bring a little chaos to the world, resulting in being somewhat unpredictable in how he fulfills wishes. This is shown by his ability to discover cards by paying mana and wish counters.
Wish counters aren't unique to these cards, as they already exist on Djinn of Wishes.
What do you think of my designs? Are thereanyinherent flaws, or is there something obviously broken? Let me hear it, please.

griffstick: That's true. Any ideas on how to change that while keeping the flavour?

My suggestion is to give Aslea something more productive to do as she sets up wish counters. In most partner pairs, each commander has a way to advance the game on their own that the other reinforces or builds off of. Aslea costs three mana less than Polimaar, so that's going to be three turns where she's not doing anything but setting up Polimaar.
Actually, building to the future could be an interesting theme. Maybe give her a scry or surveil ability? This would help give a layer of control to Polimaar's discovering, too. Then, to give Polimaar something else to do in case Aslea gets shut down, add some scry/surveil-related ability. Something like "If you would surveil, surveil that many plus one instead" or "Whenever you scry, do X." Or maybe even both: "Whenever you scry or surveil, X."

legendofa: That's great input. I made some changes, it usually takes a moment for mtg.design to deliver those here. Once they're here, how do you like them now?

Minor tweak--black ward is usually a life payment, discard, or something like that, not mana. Outside of that, they look good.

I do have a problem with these. Neither one of them does anything on its own. They only work together
