BEAUTIFUL FOIL PROXIES - Special Inkjet Technique
Custom Cards forum

Check out the foil proxy I made today.
First I stripped a foil card with acetone (in this case it was a promo Sandsteppe Mastodon). Then I coated it with Golden Digital Ground Medium. Next, I used removable double-sided tape to adhere the card to a sheet paper and proceeded to print right onto the card with my inkjet printer. Afterwards, I lightly coated it with a clear gloss finish.
Pretty neat!

How did you position the card correctly so the print worked out?

That looks like it turned out quite well, I've never made a proxy like that, I have mostly stuck to spray glue with a transparency film. the main problem I run into is the development of bubbles over time, I imagine you don't have that problem with this method do you? Also, how did you line it up in your printer properly?
thanks for sharing

TheAnnihilator, Johnithanial to line up the card for printing, I first printed just the frame of the card on a blank sheet of paper. Then I used a removable double-sided tape to stick the card onto the paper, positioning it directly onto the frame I printed. Then I put that page with the card back into the printer and printed the full image in the same place the frame was located.
I used Adobe Photoshop to edit and print the image.

Johnithanial I tried the transparency and spray glue method too but I was unsatisfied with the results. I tried a couple other ways but found that printing directly onto the card produced the best results.
The only tricky part is applying the Golden Digital Ground Medium just right so it leaves a smooth surface.

If anyone is interested, there are some cool places online where you can find neat alternate and full art cards.
Here is a Dropbox where artists upload cards.
And here is a thread from another site where artists post cards.

I'm a fucking pervert, but whenever I see highly sexualized content associated with MtG, I tend to get really cringy. I'm not really sure what it is. Maybe it's the social nature of the game or the fact that I think the game is above something like that.
