I'm guessing the Engorge aligns with the red side of it, X mana cost green, and draw is blue?

I think is more just as a good way to refill your hand if you need to and possibly get it in sooner

I understand that, but I'm trying to understand how each color is represented in the card. I thought that was the most fitting reason for it to have red in it.

ah.

Agreed.

I feel that were that ability to represent a color, should be black. also, most toads are black or green, but NEVER red. so I feel it would make more sense too.

That's kind of why I was asking, though there are a lot of Red cards that have discard, such as Faithless Looting.

Yeah, the Engorge is supposed to represent red. I agree that the ability could be black, but seeing as you need to discard two cards for one I thought it was fitting. Red is also the color of rituals. The toad part was based on Species Gorger, though I see now that it is a frog..

The fact that the card's abilities function as a Rummaging Goblin plays into the red's capabilities. The "act first, ask questions later" is very flavorful to red.

That's actually super cool. I like it. It's like Prime Speaker Zegana, but with a fireball creature attached to it. Also the delvy feeling of and with it being able to fuel more delve with the red ability.

Very interesting.

Honestly I wouldn't do 2 X parts, and instead do 1. Like after the first payment of two discarded cards, it starts decreasing your handsize by half. I could see some really good ways to use it though.

It's still a fantastic card.

I agree with dbpunk, putting 2 Xs is unnecessary. seeing as you're likely discarding contributing to the effect, you're already setting yourself up for huge disappointment if it gets countered. I don't think think XURG is is too powerful on here.

Indeed XURG would be an acceptable mana cost. Hell, Wizards actually printed Treasure Cruise. If they would have consulted us, we would have told them to make it cost more, so our threshold of what is acceptable is below even what Wizards stands by. Even if it were more powerful than XURG, I don't think it would be out of bounds, but XURG seems like that B+ you should be aiming for with any card.

My problem is that with a , , and card in your opening hand, you get a 5/5 on turn one with a new hand. I think might be a bit weak but is very strong.

August 5, 2015 4:54 a.m.

Yes, but are you willing to commit you're entire hand to one creature? A 5/5 in turn one? This critter is coming out turn three/two at the earliest. Definitely not turn one I don't think.

Have to agree with CharlesMandore. Force of Will would make you instantly lose the game. And for just a 5/5 and essentially a mulligan down to 5? Some people play turn 1 Serra Ascendant. So what?

Lovely.

I was considering the power level for Modern or Standard but I agree, if it was an EDH or Legacy card would definitely be better. I am an EDH player exclusively so I'll change it to .
