Lightning Elemental is a card that may seem to be good at a first glance, but soon reveals its problems upon a closer inspection; haste is good for only a single turn, its low toughness makes it a poor combatant, and it is highly likely that its controller's opponent shall have creatures with which to block it.

Therefore, I have created a variation of lightning elemental that is less fragile and, thus, more useful, as seen below:

Blitzkrieg Elemental Show

I increased the elemental's toughness to take care of its most glaring weakness, and I also gave it first strike, to make it a more effective combatant. I kept its mana cost the same, albeit more color-intensive, to balance its increased power. I also made it a warrior, as I imagine it wielding a lance or longsword made of lightning, and also so that it can gain tribal bonuses.

What does everyone else say about this? Is this creature a fair improvement upon lightning elemental?

I think you're missing the point of Lightning Elemental. It's meant to be used as an edict style spell that will either kill the opponent's weakest creature or kill the opponent very fast with it's 5-turn clock. You're not meant to play it as a creature that you expect to dominate the board, nor is it supposed to be a repeatable Boros Charm.

Mortem, if a creature is intended only to destroy a single creature of an opponent's, then it should be an instant or a sorcery. In my mind, creatures are intended to remain on the battlefield and influence the game, not to be momentary effects.

That's the beauty of the game; creatures can do everything. If all creatures were efficient, aggressive, and warped the battlefield around them, then the game wouldn't be as good as it is now.
