Card creation challenge

Custom Cards forum

Posted on Aug. 28, 2015, 4:15 p.m. by TheNextRedDude

Ok, heres how this works. You create a card to the specifications of the person above you, then list your own card idea for the next person. I'll start.

Variety XX

Sorcery

If X is 2 or lower, draw X cards. If X is 3, put X +1/+1 counters on X target creatures. If X is 4, return X target creatures from your graveyard to the battlefield. If X is 5 or more, Variety deals x damage to target creature or player. If X is 10 or more, you win the game.

Create a life gaining multicolored Turtle with power twice it's toughness or vice versa.

Question: For Geralf's second ability should he count cards in hand instead of hand size, which is alway seven except for in very specific situations (Jin-Gitaxias, etc.)?

Edgar Markov, Vampiric Sire

Legendary Creature - Vampire Knight

Level Up: Discard a card. You may activate this ability at any time.

June 24, 2016 6:45 p.m.

Insanity Chamber

Artifact

At the beginning of your upkeep, you may sacrifice a permanent and pay X life, where X is the number of descent counters on Insanity Chamber. If you do, draw X cards.

, Discard a card: Put a descent counter onto Insanity Chamber.

They say when we left the chamber, we were psychopaths. We prefer to think we've been perfected! -Jelenn, Disciple of Emrakul

Make a aggressive mono-black Zombie card with a CMC of or less that could be in Eldritch Moon.

Creature - Zombie

Trample, haste

Really, Really Relentless Dead Can't Block

Whenever you cast a zombie spell, you may pay . If you do, return Really, Really Relentless Dead from your graveyard to the battlefield and put a +1/+1 counter on it.

Creature - Zombie Wizard

~ enters the battlefield tapped.

When ~ enters the battlefield, return target Zombie from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.

2/2

Make a card that is grammatically sound, but has an effect that is totally without comparison in magic. Or at least try.

June 25, 2016 1:38 a.m.

Zaueski says... #9

Puff of Smoke

Puff of Smoke can't block.

If Puff of Smoke would tap or be declared as an attacker, then sacrifice it.

If Puff of Smoke would deal or take damage, sacrifice it and prevent that damage.

If your opponent coughs while Puff of Smoke is on the field under your control, you win the game.

It's just smoke, did you expect it to do anything?

10/10

Hopefully that card is completely incapable of doing anything lol feel free to add if you find something else you can do still.

Make a From Beyond that is suited flavor and power wise for zombies and adds a bit of flexibility to the current 2/2 Tokens

June 25, 2016 3:15 a.m.

That card combos with Stifle in an awesome way.one drop, turn 2 swing, stifle.

From Below
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, lose 1 life and put a 2/2 black zombie creature token onto the battlefield.
Zombie token creatures you control have: "Pay 1 life: Regenerate".
: sacrifice From Below and a token creature you control: search your library for a zombie creature card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Shuffle your library.

Make the zombie creature card you want to tutor for with the above card.

Angel of Enforcement

Creature - Angel

Flying, hexproof

Players cannot sacrifice permanents, pay life, take extra turns, search their library, or draw more than one card per turn.

5/5

Create a card that uses a totally new mana symbol in its cost without making it an unglued/unhinged-esque card.

June 25, 2016 7:57 a.m.

Ruffigan says... #14

Delirious Invocation DD

Sorcery

(For each D, instead of paying this card's mana cost, you may exile cards from the top of your library equal to this card's converted mana cost)

Each player discards a card and sacrifices a land.

So the mana is D, which is kind of like Phyrexian Mana, in that it has two modes: you can play the card normally paying D's color, or you can exile a number of cards from the top of your library equal to the card's converted mana cost. This lets you cast the spell for free, at the cost of permanently damaging your mind (your deck). Kind of like a reverse delve. This means the cards have to be costed appropriately.

Make another card using D.

June 25, 2016 11:41 a.m. Edited.

nowis2000 says... #15

Gibbering Mage (DU)(DU)

Creature - Human Mage

Flash

When you cast ~, gain control of target spell.

1/3

I think D might be more balanced if it exiles a fixed # of cards, like 3 per D. CMC makes it too hard to make high costed spells with a significant cost reduction.

Also @Mythicshade, if you put two enters between lines, it makes a new line (basically leave one line blank) and to call the mana symbols, you can put them in double brackets. ([ [B] ]without spaces gives )

Delirious Growth 2(DG)(DG)

Enchantment

At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player may put a card from exile into their graveyard that does not have the same type as another card in the graveyard, if they do, they get a 2/2 Green and Colorless Saproling Horror Token.

Make another D card, I think I am starting to like this mechanic.

Repressed Memories (DU)

Instant

Choose an instant card you own that is in exile. Copy that spell.

Make a red card that uses D.

June 25, 2016 2:58 p.m. Edited.

Wild Swing (DR)

Instant

Deal X damage to target creature, where X is the number of cards exiled this turn.

Make a multicolored D card.

June 25, 2016 3:20 p.m.

Player3.14 says... #20

This time I'll actually make a card within completely within the specifications... :)

Voice-Mad Dragon (DR)(DU)

Creature - Eldrazi Dragon

Flying

When Voice-Mad Dragon enters the battlefield, exile the top X cards of target opponent's library, where X is the number of cards you exiled to cast Voice-Mad Dragon.

You may cast cards your opponent owns exiled with Voice-Mad dragon. You may pay colored mana costs as if they were D mana of that color. The opponent whose cards you exiled with Voice-Mad Dragon may do the same with cards you own exiled with Voice-Mad Dragon.

5/5

Make a D card that would benefit a graveyard strategy.

June 25, 2016 3:49 p.m.

nowis2000 says... #21

I'm gonna put D in an activated ability, so I'll change it to exile three cards or pay the mana.

Memory Render (DB)(DB)

Creature - Eldrazi Processor

(DB): Put a card from exile into your graveyard.

(DB)(DB)(DB): Shuffle up to 10 cards you own from exile into your library.

3/3

This would allow you to go through your deck while making sure only the stuff you need for your graveyard ended up there and other stuff could get shuffled back into your library.

Make a D card that would work with a storm deck

June 26, 2016 10:06 a.m.

PistonGolem says... #22

Otherworldly Ritual (DB)

Add to your mana pool. Whenever this mana is spent to cast a spell, exile the top 3 cards of your library per mana spent.

When you cast this card, you may put a card that was put in exile from an effect other than ~ into the graveyard from exile, if you do, add to your mana pool. This can only be done one time.

Its kinda like how Dark Ritual is used in Tendrils of Agony storm, but it has the potential to be more potent.

Create a D card that works with Delirium.

June 26, 2016 10:48 a.m.

RYNO_Ross says... #23

Sparks of Rebellion (D)

Enchantment

Whenever a source other than Sparks of Rebellion deals damage to it's controller, that player discards one card at random and loses one life.

Another D card. This time a non-land or non-basic land that produces D mana.

June 26, 2016 1:11 p.m.

kengiczar says... #24

(Using nowis2000's definition of (D) but with this guy (D) is a part of the cost, not an alternative. This is my take on "produces (D) mana".)

Mind Harvester (D)(D)
Type: Creature
Sub-type: Demon Horror
Text:
"At the beginning of your first main phase each turn choose a spell in your hand. If you do you may cast that spell by exiling cards from the top of an opponent's library equal to that spells converted mana cost. If the spell chosen this way has a greater converted mana cost than Mind Harvester exile Mind Harvester."
Power/Toughness: 4/4

So this lets you cast a spell for free each turn by exiling an opponent's deck. It's not really abusive other then the obvious casting of things like Omniscience or Emrakul, the Aeons Torn for free : P

Create a permanent or spell with an "until end of turn" effect that lets you pay some form of (D) for all of your spells instead of their regular mana cost.

June 26, 2016 1:25 p.m. Edited.

Zaueski says... #25

Warped Space

Legendary Land

Tap: Add (D) to your mana pool.

(D)(D)(D): Until end of turn you may place a token of every creature you own in exile on the battlefield, they gain haste. Exile the tokens at the beginning of the next end step.

I feel like D mana would work better as a snow/Phyrexian mana and not its own distinct form like Wastes are. Just my thoughts on it...

Make a creature that is more useful with more cards in exile, something that could turn exile decks into a thing kinda like graveyard decks are a thing.

June 26, 2016 1:32 p.m.

Zaueski says... #26

Lol just realized that mine fit both the previous suggestions without knowing the second one exists. The reason I dont think it'd work as its own mana type is with cards like Wastes now introduced Draco starts getting way too overpowered.

nowis2000 says... #27

MagicalHacker says... #28

Penchant of Hours

Legendary Artifact

As long as ~ is untapped, players cannot move cards from one zone to another to pay a cost of a spell or ability or as a result from a spell or ability.

Whenever ~ becomes tapped, you may exile the top three cards of your library. If you do and there are no cards left in your library, target player loses the game.

Make a new non-permanent type without making it an unglued/unhinged-esque card. (Like instant or sorcery, but not like either one.)

June 26, 2016 4:13 p.m.

Player3.14 says... #31

Tokenshield

Deterrent

Kicker

If a token would enter the battlefield under an opponent's control this phase, exile it instead. If tokenshield was kicked, that token enters the battlefield under your control instead.

Make a red, green, or black deterrent

June 26, 2016 5:24 p.m.

Zaueski says... #32

Hmmm, maybe I should clarify. Deterrents start the stack. Theyre basically sorceries but they get played only on the opponents turn. Tokenshield wouldn't actually function under what I tried to make but since this is custom card creation its free to change lol.

I would suggest this instead: exile target token that entered this turn and then change it to take control for the kicker cost

Reckless Charge

Deterrent

Deal 5 damage to target creature that attacked this turn.

Make another Deterrent that acts like a trap in black, blue or green to complete a cycle of detterent traps

June 26, 2016 6:15 p.m.

Player3.14 says... #33

Oh, okay, I get it. Tokenshield would make a good instant, but would epicly fail as a deterrent (unless you wanted to stop your opponent from playing token-making cards that turn). Here's something a bit better:

Planeswalker's Peril

Deterrent

Choose target opponent. Destroy each creature or planeswalker that player controls that activated and ability this phase.

Also, how do you make a line across the comment for separation?

Finish the deterrent cycle.

June 26, 2016 7:50 p.m.

nowis2000 says... #34

Culling of Growth

Deterrent
