Color-Specific Tutors
Custom Cards forum

I recently developed a cycle of color-specific tutors, cards that reward a player for taking an action associated with a particular color by allowing them to search their library for a card of that color, as seen, below:

What does everyone think of these cards? I gave each of them a casting cost with two mana of their respective colors, to ensure that they were not too easy to cast, and the black and blue cards have a higher coverall cost, because their effects are so powerful.
What does everyone else say about these cards? Do you like them?
These are perfect for a Commander product, but these effects should be kept to a minimum in Constructed. Also, I do not think that a 4-5 mana instant to find a basic land is really good - you can cut that part out.
Also, the green one is the odd one out - it depends on the battlefield, while the others do not. Maybe making it reveal a creature card from your hand with power X or more.

Green could be a +1/+1 counter on a creature and then if you have the creature with the highest power.
As to the land tutor effect I like it as an option. Will it be used often? No but more options are always better. Also they are not searching for a basic land so they can get dual lands.
I agree with making the red one do 2 damage but reducing it's cost and probably the 6 damage threshold down to 4 or 5. Yes that does make it a 3 mana tutor but it's still one you got to work for.

Boza, Pervavita, for the amount of mana that these cards cost, I feel that being able to search for any land with the appropriate type, not merely a basic land, is acceptable.
TypicalTimmy, that is rather complicated, so how about this as an alternative?

What do you think of that? It still makes sense for red, but, now, it is not quite so easy to abuse. Should I increase the requirement to four instant and/or sorcery spells, or is three acceptable?

DemonDragonJ what I meant is that having the option to tutor for a land for 4-5 mana is not super useful. If these cards existed, they would be highly unlikely to be cast to tutor a land, so I suggest you just cut that part.

In contrast I think cutting the land tutor ability won't reduce the cost of the spell it's self and this ability does no harm but does give options even if only 5% of the time so I think keep it.

Boza, the tutoring effect also works for any card of the appropriate color, not merely lands, so, theoretically, a player could search for a second copy of the same tutor.

Cool idea, I'm into this!
If I was being pedantic though I'd maybe make the red one deal 2 damage (and cost less?) - or rename it something like "Bolt of Inspiration" for the memes. You could probably come up with reference-y names for all of them actually that'd be fun :).
