Community Design a Set Project

Custom Cards forum

Posted on March 19, 2015, 5:18 a.m. by Maltanis

Hey guys. I thought it might be cool if we worked as a community to design our own set!

From the world itself, to the characters within it, I thought this would be a great idea, especially having seen the "Create a Card" thread pick up some life recently.

Whose game?

Someone rang? Why am I being rung? I am confused and this is a long thread.

Last inquiry- thanks for the good luck wishes. I have finished the lists for the Involved and Potential Involvement, will continue to update as entire project grows, of course I will contribute in other areas too. When the entire project finishes, I will create a deck on T/O that will credit all those who helped and contributed. Novice, out.

I basically just want to get the T/O community to participate in a community created set :3

Soooooo, I have to read through 8 pages of creation shenanigans, plus any other threads? Am I correct? Cuz that's a lot of reading.

If you check out the Community Design a Set Project - LORE PAGE page you can see a shortened up version of the story right now if you want.

GoldGhost012 : I know it's a lot of reading, but it's condensed in the lore and design pages. It's also important we don't keep repeating things that have already been said.

I would be really happy to help out with flavour and telling the story through cards. Balancing and mechanics are a different issue.

I'm very interested in the Steelkin. I can see a lot of potential there.

Here's the idea I have with the steelkin JexInfinite. While they keep their origins of being created by an artificer, they are an embodiment of artificial life. They recycle parts from their fallen members to recreate new ones. However this creates a self identity crises, as they are now expected to live up to (or in some cases are looked down upon) and even act in a similar way to the steelkin that their parts are from. In this, the Steelkin are always trying to establish who they are to themselves, and to others, coupled with them trying to establish why they were made in the first place.

Defining characteristics design wise: Sacrifice theme. You sacrifice artifacts to gain additional benefits. There's also a complementary Recycle keyword that basically just goes like this: Recycle (X (where X is the cmc of this card), exile this card from your graveyard: search your library for an artifact card with a converted mana cost of X or less and put it onto the battlefield tapped. Shuffle your library.)

I could see a serious toolbox with that.

Can someone sum it up for the latecomers? Because there's already more than 150 big comments of argumentation, and even if the ones that had the courage like me to read the four/five first pages understood the first draft of storyline (which sounds great by the way), they might not have a good overlook of the actual state of things.

We got a deck for lore design and card design and the lore one has a summed up concept on the lore currently. Here's the link: Community Design a Set Project - LORE PAGE But yeah I'm surprise so many people like my basis of the idea, heh...
