Custom Muraganda Planeswalkers
Custom Cards forum

Okay okay okay,I'm working on a Muraganda custom block and for the first set, I want to have 3 planeswalkers. Garruk, Domri Rade, and a brand new planeswalker. My idea for Garruk is:
Garruk, Demon Cursed 4BG
Planeswalker - Garruk
+1 Garruk deals damage to target creature equal to its power and you gain life equal to its toughness
-3 Put a 5/5 Demon Beast token with flying and trample onto the battlefield under your control. You lose 3 life
-9 You get an emblem with: At the beginning of your of your upkeep, lose 2 life, and creatures you control have +2/+2 and flying
As you can see, this is a very black aligned Garruk, designed to depict is increasing transformation into a demon and his loss of sanity. Thoughts on this are appreciated.
I have no ideas on what to do for Domri but obviously something to do with creatures, so ideas are also appreciated.
Last but not least, my never before seen planeswalker. Obviously he/she would not be green and I would like for him/her to be spell related, preferably in the colours; blue, black, white or some combination of those. It might be helpful to know that the set is ally paired, with the white blue faction being spellcasters with spell mastery and the blue black faction being witches with madness.
You can find the full thread for my set here;

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to comment and/or suggest any ideas
So Garruks +1 is basically a "destroy target creature. You gain life equal to it's toughness"? Thats pretty good. Maybe too good. Also, what if there is no creatures on the board? Then he can't get any more counters? It should at least be "up to one target creature".

Garruk needs some fine tuning, (side note do any planeswalker abilities get stronger as they gain more loyalty counters?)
his +1 reminds me of Garruk Relentless Flip's 0 ability, and in the spirit of cursed madness have you considered going the Sarkhan the Mad route?
his first ability could be a 0 being in that vein, but "destroy target creature, you lose life equal to its power, Put loyalty counters on Garruk, Demon Cursed equal to its toughness" (feeding the demon at the cost of his life, Gideon, Champion of Justice style)
-3 is rather similar to Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath as mentioned above. adding in some draw, "Until your next turn, whenever a creature is put into a graveyard from play, draw a card and lose 1 life."
-9 doesnt really fit the color pie, Elspeth, Sun's Champion already has the ultimate, as does Homura's Essence but going the demon route (and nerfing the first ability by doing so) you could go the token route here, possibly a "Put a legendary 8/8 Black Demon Spirit creature token with flying and trample named Urami, the Vengful onto the battlefield."
might be overpowered, but i think it fits the demon cursed theme nicely, especially at the players expense

sorry, just noticed that you referenced him directly. I was repplying to the top line of your comment.

Please let the witches work with the overmother in some manner. Witch's Mist for reference. Maybe give them the tap ability.

IzuKorasu I really like the 'lose life equal to power and gain loyalty equal to toughness' but I feel like it could rapidly gain loyalty without losing too much life (with walls and big bodied creatures). However in saying that, I will look into developing that idea as I think it is really cool, both flavour-wise and gameplay-wise.

bennybubbles we know nothing about the Overmother, other than her relationship with Witches. She's referenced in the card Witch's Mist.

NecroPony okay cool, I had just never heard of any kind of overmother. Thanks

bennybubbles the goal was to make loyalty counters almost useless ... some planeswalkers seem to be almost exclusivly used for their first ability (Garruk Wildspeaker, Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver and Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker come to mind rather quickly)
garruk's -3 is conditional and the -9 token was legendary for that reason (i think i made it overly strong as a 8/8, probably drop it to a 6/5 and change its name to Belzenlok an unfeatured demon Liliana Vess made a pact with at some point, and the art on Triumph of Ferocity makes me think she has a score to settle)
i think my idea needs alot of fine tuning... but its a blast making new cards that fit into cannon

IzuKorasu Okay, I understand. I didn't really think of it that way and that is a very good point and I see your reasoning, I will speak with my other developers about the new abilities and I am pretty confident that they will agree as well. I am very comfortable to give you credit for the idea, so let me know if you are interested.

The blue white planes walker could have abilities like+when you next cast an instant or sorcery this turn exile as it resolves and you may cast it from cast it from exile until your next upkeep.-2 put a 0/4 legendary Mage creature named 'name' with "whenever a instant or sorcery targets only 'name' you may copy the spell (you may choose new targets) onto the battlefield -6 you get an emblem whenever you cast a instant our sorcery copy that spell twice (you may choose new targets)4

Blue black planeswalker
+1 Discard a card, draw a card and lose 1 life.
-2 discard a card, if it is an instant or sorcery it gains madness UB.
-7 you get an emblem with "instants and sorceries in your hand have madness UB."

Just a thought

That's pretty good, the -7 could be a bit strong though, but it's a great base to work from. Thanks.

no problem, I enjoy making cards, just never could do a whole set on my own.

I have begun to realise that creating a set on my own is very challenging, but that is part of the fun. I also love making cards.

I have no problem helping you with yours, I just don't know enough about Muraganda. Also, I think the -7 on the suggestion is balanced because it is still madness. You have to discard it to get it.

If you wouldn't mind helping with a few cards, you don't need to stay on for long, just help with whatever you can. And yes, the -7 is fairly balanced. Thanks.

You don't need to know much about Muraganda, at the moment I am still fleshing out the bulk of the cards, so mechanical interaciton is what I am looking for.

Madness stuff, to be honest. I don't know how to make it good without making it broken.
December 7, 2015 7:36 p.m.
Can a creature have madness?
And it seems the key is to have madness cards and discard effects to mix to give strong cards or you just have.
A: expensive cards
B: cards that make you discard cards
December 7, 2015 8:33 p.m.
bennybubbles says... #27
Yes creatures can have madness (Big Game Hunter). I don't quite understand your second point, could you reiterate?
December 7, 2015 8:59 p.m.
The simple cardscould just be like
1B
Creature
tap discard a card
2/2
3B
Sorcery
Draw two cards
Madness 1U
BU
Sorcery
All players dicard 2 cards
If you cast a card for its madness cost this turn draw a card.

bennybubbles says... #29
Those are all good ideas, I hadn't thought to do it that way. Thanks.
December 7, 2015 9:12 p.m.
Like ingest and processors madness needs two thing to work.
Madness cards and discard trigger which together give cheap powerful cards
Madness cards without discard are just expensive cards
Discard without madness is card disadvantage and should be advoided
December 7, 2015 9:14 p.m.
That's cool
It is an exciting project I would look at undertaking but wouldn't know where to start. but I enjoy helping.

Well if any of you have a mtgsalvation account, add me on that, and we can have more specific discussions without cluttering up any threads. Otherwise, add me on tappedout and we can chat there. My mtgsalvation username is SarkhanDragonspeaker. Also, time isn't really a big deal, if people want to help with a few cards and then leave, that's absolutely fine.

My shot at a BR walker
1BR
Bang, explosive satanist
+1 put a 1/1 goblin creature token with "when this creature is sacrificed it deals 1 damage to target creature or
-1 deal 2 damage to a random creature you control and target creature you don't control
-4 deal 666 damage to up to 666 creatures or players and your life total becomes 1
1

bennybubbles says... #35
Sorry, I should have given some background on the BR tribe. It is made up of demon worshippers and a few demons, with thralls and slaves making up the weenie population. The +1 and -1 are pretty good, but the -4 is a bit... strange is the word I am looking for. Good idea though.
December 8, 2015 9:25 p.m.
(666 is the devils number)And as I wasn't sure of theme I went for devil.
Other suggestions could be
-2 all creatures can't block until end of turn (no game breaking ultimate)
-3 destroy target creature then deal 2 damage to all creatures players and planeswalkers.
December 9, 2015 4:53 a.m.
bennybubbles says... #37
I understand that 666 is the devil's number, but it is a very high damage count, especially since it could hit players. However I do like a all or nothing kind of ability which offers an extremely powerful effect at the cost of you almost losing the game. Those other abilities are good too, thanks.

With GArruk's -3, it is way too similar to Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath. I would change it to something a little more 'garruk'.
I would do a ub planeswalker, maybe something like:
Dynaya, Sorceress Queen 2ub
PW- DYnaya
+1 Target player discards a card, that players opponents lose 2 life.
-3 Draw 4 cards then discard 2 cards
-5 You get an emblem with; at the beginning of each end step, each player discards a card
3
This one is very madness oriented.
For the domri, I think make use of the primordial mechanic and also dinosaurs, maybe
Domri, Dinosaur Mage 3rg
PW- Domri
+2 Put a 2/2 red dinosaur creature token onto the battlefield
0 Target creature you control fights target creature you don't control, if your creature was a dinosaur, you gain 2 life
-10 Put 6 8/8 red Dinosaur creature tokens into play with trample.
Idk, just some thoughts
