Custom Set Idea
Custom Cards forum

Not to be a hardcore project to be done, but I primarily wanted to talk of an idea I've had recently here to see who might like it. I made that Moti Isle story line but people aren't too interested in it right now, so I've gone onto making just random things.
So this set idea I just call it Dunes of Aazthro for a random name, so yeah it's a desert based set. We've only really had Arabian Nights and a little bit of the Abzan in Khans being in the desert. But a modern desert set could be something nice to work with.
Another new thing I want to try, that I'm curious why other set makers don't try, is to have a mix of triple colors that are ally and enemy for the colored theme of the set. People make ally-enemy color mixing...but only for dual colors. Not many try out triple. What I mean is that this set will have focus on three ally shards and two enemy wedges. Bant, Naya, Grixis then Sultai and Mardu, giving equal representation in each color.
Idea for Bant is generic human guardians and they have wall tribal or defender mess around. Stuff like Axebane Guardian and stuff.
Naya would be Sand Shamans, as Sand Warriors have been made before in there colors. They are shapers of the desert and thus revel in land animation as a support.
Grixis has demonic Djinns that follow how classic Djinns would be powerful beings at the cost of something. Be it life, sacrifice, or other things. A lot like demons, might as well have a mix then.
Sultai could represent the wild life of a desert, the flora and fauna. Primarily now we can have cactus people and have a lil more snake tribal possibly. I'd like to take a more aggro styled approach to Sultai compared to how Khans did it, too.
Mardu has Fiery Elemental Warriors, but despite this aggro theme of creature types...I want to try Mardu in a more control aspect. Mardu has a lot of potential for control as it has access to the big board wipe colors and tons of removal, so I feel like it could be nice to experiment.
Now because this is a Custom Card forum, I might as well show a simple idea of what I have for each of these triad of colors.
Most of them are probably broken, worded badly, and don't make sense much, but I just wanted to highlight a basic idea I had for them. Spent more time finding art than I did designing the card...

Oh yeah desert lands would become a thing, being that desert is a legitimate land type never used. So maybe a desert set alike Coldsnap where you can pay with Desert mana to do things or something.

I think Binding Djinn would be better as a 5/5 or a 4/4. For Flames of Aazthro removing indestructible would make it balanced imo because with indestructible you can wipe your board and he's still there for the other creatures you are going to cast. I really don't know what could help Thorned Brute. Possibly making him a 2/2 but that kind of ability can be very broken.

I love the idea! Although some of the cards need work.
Binding Djinn should maybe be a 6/5 rather than an 8/8, imagine the over powerness of this!
I like Dune Shaper, it would probably cause a reprint of Stalking Stones, no criticism here, probably worded wrong, but I get the point
Flames of Aazthro is nice but question about the people representative to Mardu, are they and Bant both human?
Savant of Masses is nice, but I think its CMC can be lowered to 5, it's easy to respond to.
Thorned Brute is confusing, if it can assign combat damage as if it weren't blocked, why does it have trample?
But anyways, I'm glad you made this, it could very possibly work, and it seems like fun! Would it be improper to ask if this could be spread about social media? I will not touch this without the creator's permission, so what dost thou sayeth KalvinHobbez?

Guys guys I said the cards are broken and are just basic ideas, heh. But yeah the cards would need to be reworked a lot.
Also...spreading about on social media? why so? I mean I just mentioned this as a very basic idea...dunno if people would wanna just join in like that o~o. My last set idea was worked on as a group her a bit ago but it seemed like differences in what we wanted it to be ultimately made it die down. I wouldn't mind if people liked the idea and wanted to work with it, though. I even had the idea of throwing in pseudo-Egyptian mythology due to my love for it and the lack of such a thing in Magic.

Maybe not on social media, I was tired af last night, but if we were allowed to tinker w/ it and spread the idea, that'd probably be better. Also, undead could be part of this too if it's Egyptian themed.

Rabiah would probably be the right plane: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=198111.

Oh yeah I remember Rabiah being said as the plane where Arabian Nights took place, that would make sense to use it. But yeah if you guys like you can spread it around a bit and see how people like it.

Hey, what if all tri-colors were involved? Each tri-color could have an enemy (Jeskai : Genies, Grixis : Djinns, etc.)
Also, the main ability for Grixis could be called Bargain
Bargain (As you cast this spell, you may pay X life. This spell costs less to cast for each life you paid this way)
This could allow for high Mana costs in Djinns with sacrifice to make it cost less.

Desert would be an obligatory reprint. And yes, the cards are broken, but I actually love the idea of the Desert.
