I'm trying to figure out whether this should be mana-costed at 6 or 7 mana. I am also unsure of how broken it is.

Question: How does an Eel have flying? Unblockable seems like something a eel would have.

I could see something like this being printed at Mythic. If you take out the "draw 2 cards" part of the last ability, it is less OP and can be printed at rare or uncommon.

Thanks for the feedback PhyrexianScience.

I want it to be Mythic, but I was wondering if perhaps it should read "Draw a card" instead of two. At least that is only a one card advantage. I can edit in unblockable for sure.

the closest comparison I can see is to Sire Of Insanity, so you might want to model it more closely to it.

Thinking about it, I actually like the draw two cards clause. Why? When my opponent draws a card, I will still have a one card advantage, and since this creature doesn't have flash, it can't be manipulated easily to come onto the battlefield on your opponent's turn to make this better for you. Moreover, it can be countered and is subject to boardwipes. Thus, I don't think it is incredibly overpowered.

JWiley129: Thank you for the reference. While I see what you mean about Sire Of Insanity, I don't feel like the cards align as much because Sire's ability is clearly red-based whereas the black mana in Dark-Finned Eel gives the discard while the blue mana allows you to draw.

I meant to state the purpose of this card: Dark-Finned Eel is meant to speed up control without making control the most powerful archetype. Decks aside from control run boardwipes and counterspells, so I think that it balances out okay.

With that in mind, I would love to hear more suggestions/thoughts. :)

Here's the thing, control doesn't want to speed up. Control, by definition, wants to slow down the game. That's why the current Control finishers are 6+ mana, e.g. Silumgar, the Drifting Death and Pearl Lake Ancient. Also, control doesn't want to discard their hand, it's an effect control would scoff at. As it sits, your card would do better in a reanimate strategy than a control strategy.

Just wanted to point out mythic isn't for powerful cards in general. It's for lore ridden cards or cards with huge impact to the game. This could be good or bad. Rare is good enough for everything else

Shroud is outdated and archaic. You are looking for hexproof, islandwalk/unblockable, and not flying. Fish don't fly by themselves. Rarity is arbitrary in regards power level of a card.

I used shroud so that you couldn't target it. I wanted to prevent it from being a card that gets ridiculously overpowered. I guess I could make it rare. I also figured the card advantage in combo with this guy (also from the set I'm making) would be enough to console control players.
