Defender of the Heart

Custom Cards forum

I have been seeking to create a creature that has the effect of Defense of the Heart or Tooth and Nail, so here is the result of my effort:

Defender of the Heart Show

The name of this card is a reference to defense of the heart, and it has the same mana cost as tooth and nail, albeit more color-intensive, because it is a permanent. I also decided that the two abilities should trigger under separate conditions, to require greater strategy when using the creature, and I gave it reasonable power and toughness as well as trample, to ensure that its controller was not to quick to either destroy or sacrifice it themselves and use its second ability.

What does everyone else say about this? How good of a design in this creature?

I like it. Seems like it could be a good poor-man's alternative to either Defense of the Heart or Tooth and Nail.

seems fair.

a 6/6 would be nicer, but whatever.

Seems fair. I'd be perfectly content to reanimate this.

Rune-Scarred Demon with a " put a creature onto the battlefield when this dies" clause. I like it, but I'd change to , bit that's would just be me.

I would make it similar to Greenwarden of Murasa in the sense that if it dies, you may choose to exile it instead to get the second ability. I'd also increase its stats to 6/6 or 6/5. I could see this card being way too busted in EDH without an exile clause on it.

I think anything more than a 5/5 is getting a bit greedy. I play Mayael and I'd play this all day long, but they're right about the exile clause. That'd be busted without it.

It doesn't have the same combo-y I win feel as Tooth and Nail or Defense of the Heart though, as you only get one dudely.

Since everyone here seems to think that the second ability would be better with an exile clause, I shall add it, as seen below:
