Guild Titans?

Custom Cards forum

I need help to come up with the abilities for all 10 guild titans. They'd be the same CMC as the others and same ability triggers but obviously they'd cost 4RW or 4UB or whatever guild it is. I've got most of the pictures picked out already.

The GB should Disentomb. RW could Lightning Helix.

Treasured Find would be a better fit for the BG titan than Disentomb in my opinion since it's both G and B. Another good option for GB would be Putrefy.

What about the Charm modes? on ETB choose one mode for the titans respective guild charm?

Ex. Izzet Titan - When Izzet Titan enters the battlefield choose one - Counter target noncreature spell unless its controller pays ; or Izzet Titan deals 2 damage to target creature; or draw two cards, then discard two cards

Each titan would need flash for the effect to work but they already cost 6 mana so why not lol. This could be to broken an idea but flavour wise it made sense to me that the guilds would empower their titans with their charms.

Great concept, I would love to see wizards do something to the effect of a guild titan. +1 to your creativity and imagination.

then develop the ideas for each one based on the pictures a good design creates synergy between the art, name, abilities and color pie.

GB does seem like Disentomb with the static ability reach could be interesting

Lightning Helix seems way too strong on this kind of stick (maybe 2 damage, 1 gain?) or just a "cant block" effect (with haste) on the RW giant

The charm idea sucks for a number of reasons I don't have time to talk about atm. Helix doesn't sound broken to me. Inferno Titan deals 3 to 3 and has fire breathing. This only gets one target. I say grave, sun, and primeval are still stronger than helix titan.

Gw could distribute 3 counters. Rw alternatively could make 3 1/1 soldiers with first strike.

The original titans all had two abilities: Their EtB / attack trigger, and one related keyword (IE, Sun Titan had both the return effect and Vigilance, Inferno Titan had the burn effect and Firebreathing). I'll try to tackle both for each.

Azorius: Flying.

Whenever Azorius Titan enters the battlefield or attacks, detain up to two target non-land permanents. (possibly too busted. Maybe a slight attack / power nerf to compensate?)

Dimir: Fear.

Whenever Dimir Titan enters the battlefield or attacks, target card in your hand gains Transmute 1UB until end of turn ((1UB, Discard this card: Search your library for a card with the same converted mana cost as this card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library. Transmute only as a sorcery.)

Rakdos: Unleash.

Whenever Rakdos Titan enters the battlefield or attacks, if you have no cards in hand, it gains double strike until end of turn.

Gruul: Intimidate.

Whenever Gruul Titan enters the battlefield or attacks, you may have target creature you control fight another creature you don't control.

Selesnya: Convoke (Your creatures can help cast this spell. Each creature you tap while casting this spell pays for 1 or one mana of that creature's color.)

Whenever Selesnya Titan enters the battlefield or attacks, populate (Put a token onto the battlefield that's a copy of a creature token you control.)

Izzet: Instants and sorceries you cast cost (2) less to cast.

Whenever Izzet Titan enters the battlefield or attacks, return an instant or sorcery at random from your graveyard to your hand.

Orzhov: Lifelink.

Whenever Orzhov Titan enters the battlefield or attacks, each opponent loses 1 life and you gain that much life.

Golgari: Undying.

Whenever Golgari Titan enters the battlefield or attacks, you may return target creature from your graveyard to your hand.

Simic: Flash.

Whenever Simic Titan enters the battlefield or attacks, put a +1/+1 on each other creature you control.

Boros: Indestructible.

Wheneven Boros Titan enters the battlefield or attacks, each red creature you control gains +1/+0 until end of turn and each white creature you control gains +0/+2 until end of turn.

How do you like them apples? Balanced? Fun? Crazy? Flavorful? I tried basing each one's abilities off of both the original and new Ravnican guild mechanics. IE, Rakdos Titan both has Unleash and a form of Hellbent.

Nah, probably not modes. I'll stick with the usual enter and attack ability.

Rough ideas:

  • Azorius - Flying, some kind of draw ability, or scry 2/3
  • Boros - buff attacking creatures
  • Dimir - something not milling related
  • Golgari - something like Grisly Salvage, maybe 3 cards and add 1?
  • Gruul - makes things fight? Gruul isn't very exciting.
  • Izzet - until end of turn, you can cast instant/sorcery with whatever (maybe 3 or less) CMC from your graveyard
  • Orzhov - Lifelink, gain life/opponent loses life equal to another creature's power or toughness (one of those)
  • Rakdos - Menace, sac a creature to do something
  • Selesnya - Populate
  • Simic - Proliferate

4UR 6/6- Flash, When ~ enters the battlefield or when ~ attacks, the next instant or sorcery card you cast this turn costs 3 less.

I'm working on them now.

Rather than link all the pictures, here's the album

I used the other name associated with each guild for the Titans, rather than just calling them Dimir Titan or Boros Titan (like how the mono-colored ones aren't just White Titan or Red Titan).

Input was very helpful for some and they turned out well. Some of them could be better. The Simic one I had to tone down because it had Evolve, Graft, and Proliferate

Ah, sweet, you went with most of my ideas.

Orzhov's ability is a little OP, especially in multplayer matches. See Siege Rhino. That's why I had originally set it to 1 life per opponent.

brokendwarf says... #13

At least it's not a Kokusho, the Evening Star.

I started running out of good ideas after finishing around 7 of them, so Boros is the least creative.

10vernothin says... #14

And that's why I put each opponent loses 3 and you gain 3.

brokendwarf I really like those. The Boros one may not be the most creative but I really like it's ability. I just wish they'd make these.

i like the titans, but i would fine tune the wording on some like:

4GR 6/6- Haste, when ~ enters the battlefield or when ~ attacks, ~ deals 2 damage to each other creature and each player

4UR 6/6- Flash, When ~ enters the battlefield or when ~ attacks, the next instant or sorcery card you cast this turn costs up to 3 less.

rhino on etb and attack is beyond overpowered, especially for 2 color. "each opponent loses 1 life and you gain that much life" seems much more balanced (and mirrors orzhov extort) especially with lifelink already on the giant.

that aside, it could be cool if the giants had a creature type like UG -Giant Mutant, WB - Giant Vampire, UB - Giant Rogue etc. giving them a link to their guild besides the colors.

Orzhov has been fixed in the card editor.

I like the fighting mechanic better for Gruul.

I am giving them each another creature type.

Simic : Snake Lizard Plant Giant

Scab-Clan Giant gets a brother? (also Gruul Ragebeast)

gruul got bloodthirst and bloodrush as keyword abilities. but is also big on combat damage , cant be countered and trample.

maybe

4GR Giant Shaman 6/6- Can't be countered (or trample), when ~ enters the battlefield or when ~ attacks, the next creature you cast this turn gains bloodthirst 2.

November 18, 2015 9:51 p.m.

NarejED says... #20

I considered bloodthirst at first as well, but the wording is awkward and it ended up being overly confusing. The fight mechanic is better.

November 18, 2015 10:11 p.m.

Izu_Korasu says... #21

yea i think the next creature you cast this turn gains bloodthirst 2. is as streamlined as it gets (using cards like Savage Summoning, and Bloodlord of Vaasgoth as wording examples.
