Happy Birthday X!
Custom Cards forum

It's my friend's birthday today, so I created a card dedicated to him. For reasons that I do not know, he wishes to stay anonymous. Also, since the text is so big I have to post the card in lines. This is totally hypothetical and is not meant to be played.
Journey of Life
Legendary Enchantement - Aura
Enchant creature
When Journey of Life enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on enchanted creature.
At the beginning of each upkeep, each end step, and whenever a player casts a spell, put a +1/+1 counter on enchanted creature.
As long as enchanted creature has 10 or more +1/+1 counters on it, it has flying.
As long as enchanted creature has 20 or more +1/+1 counters on it, it has lifelink.
As long as enchanted creature has 30 or more +1/+1 counters on it, it has double strike.
As long as enchanted creature has 40 or more +1/+1 counters on it, it has trample.
As long as enchanted creature has 50 or more +1/+1 counters on it, it has vigilance.
As long as enchanted creature has 60 or more +1/+1 counters on it, it has deathtouch.
As long as enchanted creature has 70 or more +1/+1 counters on it, it has intimidate.
As long as enchanted creature has 80 or more +1/+1 counters on it, it has defender.
As long as enchanted creature has 90 or more +1/+1 counters on it, it has exalted.
If enchanted creature has 100 or more +1/+1 counters on it, sacrifice it. If you do, put a 1/1 human token onto the battlefield and attach Journey of Life to it.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Last ability should read "When ..." not "If ..."
Other than that, seems cool.

Defender should be the last ability, if included at all. Also, OP card is OP.

And on my endstep, I put another counter making it up to forty. Now you can't chump block.
Activate Vorel of the Hull Clade targeting your creature giving it defender :P

raithe000 correct my friend, correct.
ThatJunkMage The ability order is actually not much of a coincidence. The only reason that exalted is last is because at 90 years old (yes, that was the intention), you are at the end of life and you pass your knowledge down to others and you are deeply respected (very stereotypical, I know). At 80 you're pretty much done with fighting. And it is really that OP? I mean, it doesn't get any protection at any time and it's three mana, not mentioning that you need a creature to enchant...

Yeh it's not really op. Takes time to do anything and like most creature enchantments allows the opponent to 2 for 1 you.

ChiefBell I guess that it's not terrible, but there are way better three drops in MTG. And besides, the intent was definitely not to make this a good card.
mpeach1 and CommanderOfBolas Thanks guys!

I'm not saying it's bad - I'm saying it's not OP.
It's pretty good In fact. It's begging to be played but still has ample downside. That's the sign of a well designed card - you want to play it but you recognise it has weaknesses.

ChiefBell Hahaha I'll take that as a big compliment!

Since +1+1 counters are a little OP, wouldn't charge counters (or a type you make up that won't alter power/toughness) seem more legit?

firemanefruitcake The whole point is that you get older slowly. And as you get older, you get stronger.
