Help with magic set editor

This is a long shot but does anyone know how to run magic set editor on Ubuntu 14.04?

I've tried the Linux install, I've tried compiling it, I've ran it in wine, every option possess more problems then the last. The Linux options are both complicated and long and Half way through I din into an issue because the files it depends on can't be foundIt runs on wine but all the sub menus won't drop do I can't do hybrid color of change rarity.

The biggest issue all together is that all the error discussions are from 2011 and discuss software that is no longer available.

Any advice would be wonderful because this has literally caused me days of strife.

You could always just run it in a virtual machine with Windows installed on it. It is somewhat of a shortcut around the entire issue, but it is more reliable than Wine and other applications.
