I've started altering my foil lands (and a few others)
So how awesome are these? I think they rock but I've gotten everything from "those are cool" to "what the fuck was you thinking ruining a Path to Exile"

Wait maybe i misread here. Are you altering the lands into other cards or redoing the foil on those?

Those are all the original cards just taken off some ink

dood, those are real. you can do that with any foil card. Just wondering, are there up for sale or trade?

Hah! Thought so! they look cool though. Sorry for lacking reading tech

You thought what? That they are real cards just removed some of the ink?

I've seen people remove the ink off of lands then print different cards over them.

The bottom 2 picks are to show the before and after, they are 2 foils side by side both real cards I just altered the one by removing some ink off one of them

The Path to Exile, Armored Wolf-Rider, and Islands look really good. I don't think the Mountains are working for me, and the only reason I don't like the Student of Warfare is that it looks slightly too awkward.
I think that, on the right cards, this effect is amazing, but on other cards, it's just too weird.
Nice work though, and keep the before and after pictures coming!

I plan on doing just that with older cards that was before they made foils like proxying my Mana Crypt so I can put it in several EDH decks without tearing down a deck every time I switch decks (and I'll only proxy cards I actualy own) but I just can't get my Mac to mirror the image yet :-(

I've got 2 of the promo Jaya Ballard, Task Mage and the promo Fiery Temper that I want to do next as well as finishing my Talrand, The Sky Summoner

Maybe I'd like them a bit more if the photos weren't taken with a potato. I dunno. I think the ugliest thing in Magic has to be white bordered cards. These dangerously close to those to me. I'm not a fan.

What do you do to keep it so clean? I've blanked whole foils before, but it's always a messy process. I'd like to do nice ones like these, but is there a good way to safeguard so you don't get acetone all over the art? Did you use a q-tip?
February 13, 2015 9:35 p.m.
What do you use to apply the acetone? Cotton ball/swab, tissue?
February 13, 2015 9:55 p.m.
I don't use acetone (at least I don't know if it's acetone) I first would take about 3 hours and a "Pink" eraser (has to say "pink eraser" nock offs won't work) but then I found this stuff at my work called "Nozzle Klean" that strips paint off of the air conditioners I build and tried that with a paper towel (still using masking tape to protect the ink I wanted to keep) but the pink eraser still works on non foils too you just have to take your time

Acetone or things containing it (like nail polish remover) wipe foiled cards right off, but being so potent means it's really easy to make a mess. Does just rubbing it with an eraser really get the ink all the way off?
February 13, 2015 10:52 p.m.
Only 2 of those land was done with chemicals the rest was an eraser but like I said it takes about 3 hours
February 13, 2015 10:55 p.m.
And masking tape gives you nice strait edges and you can rip it into whatever shape you need to to cover the ink you want to keep

Now looking at I wish I had taken that Student of Warfare that I did out of the "pro fit" sleeve before I took the pick

So in order to do the same thing, I would have to either Erase all of the ink off, or I would masking tape over whatever I want to keep and take some nail polish remover to it? Wouldn't that damage the foil?

Judge, he's playing with Silver bordered cards. Those are banned in all formats? Yeah?
But for real, I recently did that to a Tectonic Edge and Academy Ruins to make all the lands in my blue tron deck white bordered. Just put on some masking tape and dab a little nail polish remover on a paper towel and rub away. Works on foils and non foils.
With these, I have to say that I very much disagree with the random floating text boxes, like on the lands and student of warfare, but the path is pretty cool. Not sure how I feel about the inner boxes being stripped though, I'd just remove the borders and the area around the outside of the text boxes.

No the foil is FOIL so does nail polish damage tin foil? Yep masking tape what you want to keep and take an eraser (or chemicals) and stat erasing (now note that the edge of the tape will have a small strip right next to it about the thickness of the tape that the eraser won't erase)
