How relevant do you think this would be in standard?

Name: Soul Preserver (the name is shit, i don't care)

1B (could also be 1U, maybe hybrid?)

creature - human wizard

1 (Tap): set aside the top 2 cards of your library. cards exiled this way may be used for delve as long as Soul preserver remains in play.

1/2

Flavor: "A soul is like a fine wine. It's only for the master, and a half full bottle might as well be empty. "

thoughts?

Why doesn't he just put the 2 cards in the grave? Putting cards aside for any reason is generally avoided.

I would generally like to get something other than cheaper spells from paying 1b, since you are not getting a discount here (spend 2 mana to cast something for 2 less).

Also, you can just say: Undertaker and Fauna Shaman will be great in Standard if reprinted, rather than complicate things )

This would be passable as an uncommon. Each time you pay 1 mana you cheapen a delve spell by 2. The fact that he sets them aside stops graveyard shenanigans. Because he's only a tiny bit exploitable, and not wholly exploitable I think he's uncommon level but definitely not rare.

He wouldn't be played in standard at a competitive level because he does too little, too slowly.

The wording is kind of awkward right now, why not:

, exile the top two cards of your library: Add to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to cast spells with delve.

Or you could make the exile part of the ability rather than a cost.

It kinda beats the purpose of Delve, no? Delve is a mechanic that lets us cast heavy spell easier using indirect resource, in this case is graveyard. I think giving mana directly is kinda off-course

How about: , send the top cards of your library to the graveyard. At the next end step, return one card from your graveyard to the bottom of your library

I don't think that it is good enough. It is really narrow. Using a card, that can only lower your Delve cost... The idea is kinda fun, but not really good :)

What if he straight up mills, and then has when he leaves, exile your graveyard?

I like it, it's not OP but it does something useful for limited. I don't think it needs to be changed, and that it's really any worse (for limited) than any of the options other people have suggested. It's obviously not as good for constructed as something like MagicalHacker offered, but for where it fits I like it. It's better than what nighthawk101 suggested in that you don't have to do it right now so you could build up a bank of 4-6 cards to cast a Treasure Cruise on the cheap without eating your whole graveyard.

I think it would be better as:

put the top 3 cards of your library into your graveyard. If a spell or ability would return them to a players hand or the battlefield, exile them instead.

Means they can be used for Splinterfright type effects as well as delve but can't be reanimated or taken back.

Wouldn't this permanently lower Delve costs by 2? If it's already exiled and you can exile it for delve, it can just be used again later, no?

How about straight-up advantage for Delve?

Effect:

, Sacrifice [Card Name]. Draw a card.

If [Card Name] is exiled from the graveyard as a cost for spell with Delve, it counts as
