Kytheon, Erebos' Reclaimer

Planeswalker- Kytheon

+2: Until end of turn, Kytheon, Erebos' Reclaimer becomes a 5/5 Human Soldier creature with indestructible and "If a creature blocking Kytheon, Erebos' Reclaimer would die exile it instead" that's still a planeswalker. Prevent all damage that would be dealt to him this turn.

-3: Exile target non-enchantment creature.

0: Put a 2/2 black Agent enchantment creature token on to the battlefield. You lose 3 life.

-9: You get an emblem with "Creatures you control named Kytheon, Erebos' Reclaimer have deathtouch and get +1/+1 for each face up creature card your opponents own in exile."

Okay, Lets say Gideon dies on Zendikar but he gets sent to Nyx to stay with Erebos for the rest of eternity because Theros is Kytheons home plane. Or he planeswalks as he is dying. He ends up confronting Erebos for what happened to the irregulars back when Kytheon thought he could kill Erebos, and Erebos tortures Kytheon by making him watch as his friends are tortured. This drives Kytheon mad and he asks Erebos to stop, and offers to do as Erebos pleases. Erebos makes Kytheon an agent and sends him to be the reclaimer of the returned on theros. He gives Kytheon the choice to start anew with this position. Erebos grants Kytheon a boon for his servitude, an upgrade to his Sural, making it look like his own whip and imbuing some of his power into it. Now Kytheon finally pays for his arrogance, one soul at a time.

How would he get to Nyx from Zendikar? It's on an entirely different plane.

I like the idea but your templating is a bit weird.

JWiley129 I'm trying to figure out the way it would work. Maybe he planeswalked last minute but died as he went to theros.

Gidgetimer how would you format it differently?

The emblem should probably read: "While Kytheon, Erebos' Reclaimer is a greature, he gains Deathtouch, Vigilance, and gets +1/+1 for each creature card your opponents' own in exile." Additionally, a 0 loyalty ability that makes a free enchantment creature is too good. It single handedly breaks Eidolon of Blossoms, Grim Guardian, and Doomwake Giant.

The templating of the -3 could use some work too. I'm not sure the best way to phrase it, but something along the lines of "Destroy target creature. If that creature isn't an enchantment, exile it instead of putting it into its owner's graveyard."

Thanks! I was having some trouble with the wording on this. Is there any way that there is a better trade off for the zero ability. Like lose 3 life or something.

The +2 is the Gideon ability so ctrl+c ctrl+v it from an existing one and change the name and stats and add the ability.

Until end of turn, Kytheon, Erebos' Reclaimer becomes a 5/5 Human Soldier creature with indestructible and "If a creature blocking Kytheon, Erebos' Reclaimer would die exile it instead" that's still a planeswalker. Prevent all damage that would be dealt to him this turn.

The -3 is a bit wordy you could fix this by removing the ability to hit enchantment creatures at all if you want the type enchantment to matter or just treat them the same.

Exile target non-enchantment creature.

or

Exile target creature.

The 0 is pretty concise. The ult has a bit of a problem because the buff is symmetrical, always on, planeswalkers have no reason to be untapped on your opponent's turn so vigilance is unnecessary. The way the buff is worded also doesn't use precise terminology and could lead to some confusion if there are cards face down in exile.

You get an emblem with "Creatures you control named Kytheon, Erebos' Reclaimer have deathtouch and get +1/+1 for each face up creature card your opponents own in exile"

Just something I thought I'd point out, I think there'd be too much text on this card for it all to fit comfortably without dramatically decreasing the font size.

Randomly torturing people isn't Erebos's sthick.

It's not random. The gods do what they must to bend mortals to their whims.

This is another issue. Erebos isn't Sadistic. Here is an excerpt from the Planeswalker's Guide to Theros about Erebos:

" Erebos is an effective warden and lord of the Underworld realm. He is not without compassion, but his compassion is limited to feeling on behalf of others what he himself feels, and his acceptance of his fate means that his lieges, the dead, must accept theirs. He idly envies the sunlit world of the living, but only in a daydream-like way. He knows that all mortal souls will eventually join him, which affords him a kind of satisfaction and certainty. When others suffer, it brings Erebos peace, but not glee, because the alienation and banishment of others enables them to identify with his own."

Yeah. I am working on how gideon would be persuaded to serve Erebos. If you have any ideas let me read em.

As a "reclaimer"? Hmm I'd say that their time in the underworld twisted some of his irregulars enough that they become malicious zombies as returned. Feeling an obligation to stop what were once his followers Gideon agrees to reclaim the souls of those who left the underworld.

The main problem comes with how Erebos with his infinitely long whip can't just bring the souls back himself. That is the function of his whip after all.

Too many souls are escaping. It also sends a message to those thinking about trying it. Like I said if you have a better reason for Gideon to go black say it.

Nah I was just putting in my 2 cents for how Gideon may decide to help. Also pointing out the lore that would need a reason.
