Let's Make Return to Zendikar

Custom Cards forum

Exactly what it sounds like.

This whole topic is about designing new cards that you would like to see in a potential Return to Zendikar block. For example, we'll be looking for new Roil themed cards, new Nissa elves, some interesting new colorless cards from both Ugin and the Eldrazi, more quest cards, etc., etc.

Here's my idea for a new Tuktuk card -

Tuktuk, Warren Protector -

Legendary Artifact Creature - Goblin Golem

Vigilance

Tuktuk gets +0/+1 for each Goblin creature you control.

Tuktuk can block any number of creatures.

My personal opinion is that RTZ will be the upcoming block after m16. I hope a returning mechanic is landfall, which would keep the value of fetches high during standard.

Some of my reasons for thinking this is that everything keeps pointing to the Eldrazi recently--as well as hedrons showing up in art again. Also, MaRo (I think) stated somewhere that full art basics are planned for an upcoming set he couldn't announce yet.

With the gravity bending shenanigans of The Roil, I always wondered why we never saw anything that mucked around with gravity in the original Zendy block. Something like:

2UUGravity WellEnchantmentCreatures without flying may block as through they had flying.Creatures lose trample.

It's not a good card at all and it's a weird wording, especially as its basically reach but not for flavour reasons but you get the idea :)

Oh and I'd love to see Allys return! Especially as they now have to band together to survive the eldrazi broods.

They could even reverse the Ally mechanic, from an enters the battlefield trigger to a death trigger.

So something like

3BBVengeful Commander3/3Whenever Vengeful Commander or another Ally you control dies, target creature gets a -2/-2 until end of turn.

BlueEyesRedMage I love Allies too. I like the ETB effects better though. It'd likely be -X/-X where X is equal to the number of allies you control.

Return to zendikar

RWGBU

Enchantment

Exile all cards not printed in the return to Zendikar block. For the rest of the game only cards printed in the return to zendikar block may be cast.

@BlueEyesRedMage

You what that enchantment reminds me of? Apocalypse Chime. I'll let peopple interpret that as they will.

January 30, 2015 4:21 p.m.

Yeah Homelands was so bad they even put a card in the set to punish you for playing the set at all...

I don't know why that idea even took root, City in a Bottle.

Hmm... why not create a card that represents the denizens of Zendikar finding new ways to defeat the Eldrazi? Or at least new ways to survive the Eldrazi?

Perhaps something like this:

Nahiri's Chosen -

Creature - Kor Soldier

Protection from Eldrazi

Creatures and lands you control can't be sacrificed by a spell or ability an opponent controls.

2/1

Oh, and also, the Kor would be back, and maybe Nahiri would make an experience.

I kinda wanna see the return of sweep. Like in Barrel Down Sokenzan and other such cards. This time they could be good too! Something like:

Mana Pulse - RR1

Instant

Sweep - return any number of lands you control to their owner's hand. Add R to you mana pool for each land you returned this way.

It fits flavor wise too. The world is being torn asunder by the eldrazi so the land itself is being consumed for fuel.

Sweep wouldn't just be good flavor wise, I think it would be really good mechanic-wise. It synergizes really well with Landfall. I like the idea.

ChiefBell How about this as an edit?

Zendikar Reborn

WUBRG

Whenever a legendary creature from the Zendikar expansion attacks, you may exile that creature. If you do, you may put a legendary creature from the Return to Zendikar with the same creature type as that creature onto the battlefield tapped and attacking.

I'm new to this, so tell me if you like it!

I don't know that a card like that would work all that well... It would be fun to build around for sure but I think its far too limited in what it can actually do. Plus it would mean we would have to have a significant legendary presence in Return to Zendikar.

Personally I love legends and the flavor of them so I would be keen on a new "Captain Sisay" type card. Maybe something like:

CARD NAME 1WBG

Legendary Creature - XXXX (mythic rare)

"Card Name" has Lifelink as long as you control another white legendary permanent, Hexproof as long as you control another blue legendary permanent and Trample as long as you control another green legendary permanent.

"Card Name" gets +1/+1 for each other legendary permanent you control.

4/4

I would love to see something like this. There could even be a Blue/Black/Red version as a counter. But as a mythic its not overpowered since it requires other cards to get crazy but its still decent as a 4/4 for 4CMC. I dunno Im just dreaming over here.

I was joking with my card

February 2, 2015 11:47 a.m.

Or heck, more simply:

"Sisay V2" 2GW

Legendary Creature - Something Something

Legendary permanents you control are indestructible.

Whenever you cast a Legendary permanent put a +1/+1 counter on each Legendary creature you control.

3/3
