This is a card I've been working on, and I'm not sure if it should have haste or not. Enflame is also a new mechanic for RB in a set I'm designing. Please give feedback.

I just don't see this as good. When I attack i lose at least 2 life and this creature right?

i mean maybe with haste.

Can you describe the use case or scenario in which you see this card shining? Or describe your purpose for this.

Well, I wanted it to feel like a demon where you get some sort of benefit for a loss. The set has a GW that has heavy hexproof/protection, so this card would allow a way around that. I could maybe take off the lose 2 life tag, and it would be more viable? I guess I was worried about it being overpowered. I will also probably make RB a token-oriented color combination.

I think that it should be "whenever a player sacrifices a creature, that player lose one life''.

How about this?

~CARDNAME~

Creature - Demon
Flaying, haste
Enflame (When this creature attacks, each player sacrifices a creature or loses 3 life.
4/4

I agree with that. I will change it to that.

I don't want to give too much of an option for the sacrifice, but it wouldn't be a bad card in a different set.

So you need to sac two other creatures to be able to deal damage with this guy? Maybe the sacrificing could be at end of combat or end of turn to be able to attack with him.

My version would be:
Lugor, Lord of the Embers

Creature - Demon
Flying, haste
Enflame (At the beginning of each players upkeep, that player sacrifices a creature if this creature is tapped).
4/6

I changed the Enflame ability so you can attack with him if he is the only guy you have, and i made it so your opponent sac first to make the ability better. It also opens up for fun untapping shenanigans :)

Meh.. brainfart.. Untap is before upkeep, so it wont trigger on your turn. Maybe "Enflame (At the beginning of each players upkeep, that player sacrifices a creature if this creature began the turn tapped)." or something..

Right now his abilities represent black only. So I suggest you make him...

, give him haste and have the second trigger only make you lose 1 life.

What if I edit the ability to Enflame 2 (When this creature attacks, each opponent sacrifices 2 creatures, and each player loses 2 life.)

His second clause could then read, When you sacrifice a creature, you lose 1 life.

He would not get haste then. Does that seem relatively fair?

I am unsure of 4CMC vs 5CMC with that edit,

lothshteth I didn't see your post before my most recent one. I think haste could work if that were the case. He could be a 5/4 for 4 with haste?

I could also add an ability aside from Enflame as an etb effect. "When Lugor, Lord of the Embers enters the battlefield, put two 1/1 Orc creature tokens onto the battlefield." This at least ensures that you don't have to sac him that turn.

Yeah 5/4 is probably better. But your most recent suggestion is too convoluted. Why would he even have the last trigger? And in that form enflame would be op as hell. He'd be destroying fields and life totals with too much efficiency. Don't overthink it. The design is solid to begin with. The major things you wna nail are flavor and color identity. All the stats are easily tweakable to conserve power level.

Also, lothshteth, would this card make Enflame broken? Land card

@buildingadeck that's just generally really good. It's better than Kher Keep and Kjeldoran Outpost, which are the norm for token lands.

buildingadeck says... #19

Okay, so maybe a "comes into the battlefield tapped" clause and an extra colorless cost to produce the token?

@buildingadeck That seems pretty fair.

This should be better.

No not broken at all. The redone land is fine. There are lots of ways to make tokens to compensate for Enflame. A legendary land that comes in tapped and requires 3 mana plus it to tap is fair.
