Mechanic Design - Behold
Custom Cards forum

Hello tappedout, I'm not a very avid forum goer, but I was told that the forums are a great place to drop some card design ideas to get feedback, so I figured I'd like to get the opinion of you guys.
Overly formal introductions aside here is the mechanic I've been working on:
[Behold (When you cast this spell, starting with you, players may tap any number of creatures they control.)]
The mechanic gives you and/or your opponents specific benefits based on how they tap their field. Wanted to see if it was possible to make a little bit of a political design in 60 card magic.
Some cards that use this mechanic:
So the mechanic at earlier rarities uses less complex effects that show off it's usefulness. There will be cards that you alone might want to tap, your opponent might want to tap, or a little bit of both.
I'd love to see the evaluation of the mechanic as a whole, rather than the statistics and power level of individual cards and I'd love to see feedback.

This mechanic seems very deep. You have some that encourage you to tap creatures, and others that encourage your opponent to tap creatures. I like this mechanic. It combines elements of Tempting offer and of Tribute.

Epochalyptik - Would you be able to say 'each creature that beheld this spell' or similar instructions because in the game 'beheld' isn't a verb so it doesn't mean anything. Like reading the card I get what it does and it's clear, but could you word it like that?

"For each creature tapped by XYZ" over "For each creature that beheld" sine beheld doesn't mean anything in MtG and is distinct from the keyword itself.

Well I know exactly what your talking about when you say 'beheld' and for the longest time I didn't know how to word it to where it gives the most clarity.
There are cards that follow a similar structure with the renaming of mechanics, exploit being the loose text guideline of this mechanic.
Exploit cards have 'Exploits' and 'Exploited' so there is some room for creativity when it comes to choosing the vocabulary. Albeit loosely.

Yeah, its fine as is. Kicker is another example, as many cards say kicked referencing the ability and whether it was paid for.
Great job! And welcome to the forums.
