Custom Cards forum

MTGCardsmith and TappedOut are great in conjunction and I'd love to see some community melding in this regard.

The website host is a very congenial and helpful person working hard to make the cardsmith the best it can be for its users. There aren't a lot of us active over there currently, but we are prolific. Custom cards can be printed or even uploaded to Untap for play!

I encourage all of you to check the site out as it is a blast but could be way better with all of you there! There's also community forums where we conduct challenges and engage in card design discussion!

Here's all the website's pertinent info:

I'll leave you for now with a couple of my custom cards:

Currently I'm the "Most Popular Smith" on the custom card creation website that is MTGCardsmith.com.

So much more to see! Can't wait to see you all there!

That Silvertongue Sisters is OP AF. Just grab three Pacts not in your opponent's color and lock them out of the game by turn three.

Yeah, I don't think those are the cards best representative of our community's balancing and design abilities. You may want to revise you card choices, Faiths_Guide!

I picked cards from the best smiths, but not every one is their best design. On the website we discuss our designs and refine accordingly.

I've had MTGCardsmith ruined for me by the whymtgcardsmith Tumblr. Sorry.

Ya, I'm afraid that those cards account for why the site produces so many cards. However, I think you should give the Forums a look, you'd like 'em.

Feel free to check my designs out and make suggestions or whatever!

Thoughts on a new one I made?enter image description here

It was created for a request (which I'm currently taking here: http://forums.mtgcardsmith.com/discussion/2827/faiths-guide-reverse-challenge) which asked for "Rakdos Group-Hug".

Does it need to be that complicated?

Also, Silvertongue Sisters doesn't work because it becomes a new object when it changes zones from the stack to the battlefield.

Interesting....

I love B/R cards in general, the lifelink emphasizes the Vampire part, I like the idea of discarding two cards to draw one, but maybe not draw seven. That sounds oh so too powerful. Maybe four or three cuz otherwise you can use a repeatable discard engine to draw eight cards a turn.

But other than that, this looks like a fun build around card. Props to the chef.

Oh, hello Epochalyptik! Your input would be extremely valuable. Do you have a condensed version of Vice to suggest?

I realize that the other smith's Sisters card may not function as is, but it does show a lot of ingenuity. I really shouldn't have posted other user's creations without asking them first, so let's ignore those three cards for now.

Thank you Toodz111 and welcome to MTGCardsmith! I hope you enjoy your time there! The reason I wouldn't want to lower the number of cards you draw is because it would actually make it easier to get the extra cards more frequently. Vice is relatively easy to remove from play, so I think currently he shouldn't be too broken (especially relative to some recent commanders we could discuss from WotC).

Maybe this:

"At the beginning of each player's upkeep, if he or she has no cards in hand, that player draws seven cards. Otherwise, that player may discard two cards, then draw a card."

Perhaps draw three instead of seven, as per Ghirapur Orrery?

May 13, 2017 5:27 p.m.

Faiths_Guide says... #16

zephramtripp

The problem I see there is just how frequently you be able to go through new cards. With this large draw, you' ll be able to use it much less often (and I think it'll be more equally beneficial--goup-huggy--than if you piloted this in a game of commander with more frequent uses and lower hand sizes). Perhaps you guys are right, I'm not totally sure on this just thinking aloud.

May 13, 2017 5:36 p.m.

zephramtripp says... #17

The problem with the draw seven is that you are going from literal nothing to eight cards in hand, which is a massive shift. The difference is probably between drawing eight every other turn and drawing four every turn, but if you have synergy with discarding cards like Oblivion Crown, the draw eight could grant this massive +8/+8 every turn, versus +4/+4 with the Orrery.

ManaChromeI tend to run a "search by image" on Google after finding an art piece I like. Scrolling through all the different image sizes ever uploaded usually lets you find the original artist.

Faiths_Guide, some of these designs may need some streamlining or adjustments in their formatting, but most of the ideas seem to be very fascinating and creative. In particular, I do like regroup, as the idea of a white variant of Time Stop is an interesting one, but it needs to have a much higher mana cost than what it currently has, because it is far too powerful at only 1 mana.

Wow, Jeskai windwatcher is so amazing that, if I did not know otherwise, I would have thought that it was an actual card, and it is easily my favorite card out of those that have been shown, thus far; whoever designed that card should be very proud of themselves, and I cannot believe that WotC never thought of a creature such as that.

If it is not too impolite to do so, I believe that Silvertongue Sisters could be balanced with only minor changes, as seen, here:

Silvertongue Sisters Show

First, the first ability should be an enters-the-battlefield ability, because it simply makes more sense, that way. Second, two mana is simply too low of a cost for both the initial casting and activating the ability, so I believe that increasing it by a mere one mana will make the creature more balanced.

Also, if there are three sisters depicted in the artwork, would it not make more sense, from a flavor perspective, for the creature to be a 3/3 (akin to Sen Triplets)?

All good points! As stated above, it isn't my design so I won't be able to implement changes. Thanks for taking the time to make those suggestions though!
