My custom Planeswalker
Custom Cards forum
Posted on April 17, 2015, 3 p.m. by Egann
As there are several of these threads, I thought I would share one a friend made for me.
Planeswalker: Egann
Casting cost: 2UR
+1: Exchange control of a permanent you control and a permanent you don't control
0: Put 2 1/1 red elementals onto the battlefield.
-7: Take an extra turn. Targer player skips his or her next turn.
Starting Loyalty: 3
The major problem playtesting is that "swapping" functions as both removal and as a second spell. I feel it will be much more balanced if the swap ability is a -1 and the tokens a +2.
Thoughts?

The +1 ability probably shouldn't affect lands. If you switch a token with a land, you're basically doing LD and ramp at the same time.
Generating tokens as a +2 ability seems too strong. It generates protection for the planeswalker while also giving loyalty.
The ult seems fine as lonng you don't make spitting tokens a + ability.

Here's what I would suggest:
+1: Exchange control of target noncreature, nonland permanent you control and target noncreature, nonland permanent you don't control.
+1: Put 2 1/1 red elemental creature tokens onto the battlefield
Keep the ultimate as-is.

This looks like a really cool idea.
I imagine the Planeswalker to be some kind of magician perhaps?
You know, with the whole swapping 2 different permanents and creating elementals out of thin air (although, perhaps Illusions would fit the theme more)
Either way it's really cool!

That ultimate in the OP seems broken. For using it, you not only take an extra turn, but make the opponent skip their next turn? The value is equal to two Time Walks there. It may take 4 turns to get to, but with the colors given for the planeswalker, it's very easy to protect.
The plus is absurd. I can give you my Storm Crow and take your Karn Liberated? There should be some sort of balance. Perhaps limiting what type of permanent can be swapped.
2 tokens for nothing isn't that bad compared to the other abilities, but is still pretty busted. It could be a minus one and be much more fair.

I think to balance this out the +1 should say something like "Exchange control of target permanent you control and target permanent you dont control that share a card type". Not sure if that was the right wording but the jist of it is you can trade a walker with a walker or a creature with a creature but thats it.
Also the ultimate should just be take an extra turn after this one, two turns is way to overpowered.

MrCheeseOnToast: I'm starting to like the idea of making the exchange power a -1 "exchange a permanent you control and a permanent you don't control of the same type." It's restrictive without being oppressive.
I'm less convinced the token being a +2 would hurt that much, but I can see what you're saying. (Elspeth, Sun's Champion makes three tokens but doesn't do any shenanigans with them until her ultimate. +1 it is.
chrishuffman95: I don't see how the ult is broken, especially if you make the exchange a -1. I ran a control-swapping deck using Ral Zarek. Ral has the same mana cost, starts with a higher loyalty, gives you more extra turns on average, and all of the extra turns are relevant in roundtable formats. I think that balances for the swapping ability, especially if I make it a -1.

Exchanging permanents of the same type not oppressive? It would be so broken with this guy. He's the perfect colors for switching a Tibalt with a Karn! shudders

I would make the exchange -2 at least. I mean, it's basically a Switcheroo on a stick, but better.

Maybe...
-3: Gain control of target non-land non-planeswalker permanent an opponent controls, and give target opponent control of a target non-land non-planswalker permanent you control.
Or...
-1: Gain control of target creature an opponent controls, and target opponent gains control of target creature you control.

I ment to add "...Untill end of turn." To the bottom ability.

Maybe make it:
-1: Gain control of target non-creature, non-planeswalker you don't control, and that card's owner gains control of their choice of non-creature, non-planeswalker you control
Or something like that; give the opponent a choice in the matter (and take away the ability of them to just take said planeswalker). Just my 2 cents.

holy. shit.
This is WAY too good. its +1 is INSANE~!
I make a 1/1 goblin a in exchange for your blightsteel colossus? its messed up. That should be either a -3 or 4, and make the 0 into a +2, or make it so they have to have equal to or less mana cost and have it be like a -1 ahv have the 0 one be +1.
And that ultimate, doh. Its crazy, it gives you 2 extra turns. Honestly, though, I'd make it "target player skips the next 2 turns" instead, to get around cards such as Stranglehold and Ugin's Nexus.
