New Line of Planeswalkers
Custom Cards forum

Now, I've always loved planewalkers and wanted create my own line of them. I just wanted to get your feedback because I would like to create them some day in real life. Before I do that however, I would need some help trimming them down if they turn out to be too powerful.
Now, without further ado:
I will be creating a planeswalker for each color, but these are the 4 I have right now. You have probably already seen the Rakdos planeswalker in the custom cards forum, but I thought I would post it here anyway so you can compare them together.

Calimeh has a really underwhelming ability for a -11. If he isn't damaged once, It will still take you 7 turns until you can get the emblem, and all it does is... make your opponent have to pay more to play things, which probably won't even be relevant because that late in the game people will have a lot of mana and will be topdecking. Compare it to Narset Transcendent. Both have the same mana costs, Narset has one more starting loyalty, Narset's ultimate is a -9, not a -11, and Narset's ultimate actually can straight up stop things, not just make it harder to cast stuff.
I think you should lower the ability down to -8 or -9 or make it do something more powerful.

Atolli and Keb are horrible, Calimeh's -11 is horrible and Sir Fowler is probably good good.

Lower Calimeh's ultimate, it's wholly unreachable right now.
Sir Fowler is good, but I can see him just being overcosted Gamble every time.
Keb is underwhelming. He needs some way of protecting himself while plussing. Instead of one life, maybe consider giving us a 2/2 zombie. He could probably also have that colorless mana removed from his mana cost without any issues and it would increase his playability.
Atolli is also underwhelming. He's fairly balanced, and I wouldn't complain about having him in EDH. However, his plus ability is just so weak. Consider having him put out a small token or something. Anything that actually affects the board rather than just giving you a small amount of life.
August 17, 2015 4:39 p.m.
Personally I would play all of them except Sir Fowler. Both in a "standard" format and and EDH/Commander.
Kalimeh is like a Venser that's easier to cast with not as good an ultimate, but the first two abilities are much more usefull imo.
Atoli gains massive life for elves, presuming they survived to T4, and a Cultivate for -2 is very good.
Keb is like a gravewalking version of Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver. Requiring 2x and 2x seems like a bit much though. On the other hand taking either color down to just 1 isn't as proportional as his abilities but making him cost is a little weird.
The only one I am skeptical about is Sir Fowler. His -3 is to risky. Discarding at random was tried before with Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded and you'll notice he was the worst Planeswalker ever.

I have updated the planeswalkers in the section above. What does everyone think of them now?
Is Calimeh's ultimate too OP?
Is Keb still underwhelming?
Is Atolli too OP now?
August 17, 2015 4:45 p.m.
Keb's +2 seems really good. I was already willing to play it but now I might be convinced to sell all of my Leyline of the Void. _
Keb's Ultimate is the same as the new 4 drop Sorin no?
I don't remember Atoli's old ultimate because I honestly stopped after reading the first two abilities, but it seems fine at six considering you want lots of creatures, meaning a couple of lands would probably have been cut for utility, meaning you'll probably -2 Atoli at least once.
August 17, 2015 4:52 p.m.
Sorin, Solemn Visitor's ultimate makes them sacrifice creatures during their upkeep. Keb's ultimate is like Grave Betrayal except it doesn't enter with a +1/+1 counter.
Atolli's ultimate used to be that you had to search for up to 3 green creatures, but I just switched it to any 3 creatures.
August 17, 2015 5:04 p.m.
My mistake I should have said Liliana, Defiant Necromancer Flip, not Sorrin. The ultimate you have is better because it's not "at the end step" meaning you could straight out kill somebody with Goblin Bombardment, even with their own creature. Infact if I ultimate that walker, had Goblin Bombardment, I could kill them even if they hit me with a Leyline of the Void earlier! Squeee!
Atolli's ult fetching any creature seems really juicy. Truth is even if I could fetch ANY 3 creatures I would only maybe fetch a Spellskite in modern or else just go straight for the classic three elf infinite mana combos. The fun thing about her Ult hitting ANY 3 creatures is you could finally use Sundering Titan in certain decks, or else just go for Eldrazi or Blightsteel/Darksteel Collossus.
August 17, 2015 5:13 p.m.
Do you think they are balanced enough or do you think they are too OP? Now that I think about it, Keb's ultimate does seem really powerful. I didn't even think about other cards saying "at the beginning of the next end step."

I liked Calimeh's first ultimate more, just think it should have been 8 or 9 instead of 11.
Sir Fowler is great, although removing the random discard also makes me wonder where the red is coming from now. He seems mono-black now, very similar to Liliana Vess
Keb is much more playable now. I personally wouldn't play him, but he's easier to cast now and also has a more immediate impact.
Atolli's ultimate shouldn't be that. He now reads "win the game" as his ultimate. Green creatures was already good enough.
August 17, 2015 5:23 p.m.
I really wanted to make Sir Fowler a Rakdos character because that is my favorite guild. Do you think I should make you have to discard a card at random first? Otherwise I'm not sure how to make it feel like it has red in it's cost.
August 17, 2015 5:45 p.m.
Kreb's ultimate is on the same power level as Tamiyo, the Moon Sage in a stall deck and Venser, the Sojourner in something like America or Esper control. I don't think it's to OP to be printed if his block doesn't have things like Delve, Flashback, Dredge or anything similar, he'll be fine.
Sir Fowler is still somewhat red to me because I discarding to get a card to be more of a red thing than a black thing. If you really want to keep it red for sure, leave his -3 how it is except you can only get instants or sorcery cards.
The ultimate on Sir Fowler really makes me think that it HAS to be played in a deck, or a deck with lots of life gain. It's pretty restrictive and even if you do get it going it doesn't matter much once all your permanents are gone. If I top deck a Lightning Bolt or hit you with an Eldrazi once you're gone. An ultimate can be dependent on the opponent having certain things, but not negatively dependent imo. A better ultimate would be something like "whenever you would be dealt damage target opponent discards that many cards." This would allow it to be "positively dependant" and work well with sweepers such as Blasphemous Act, Anger of the Gods, and Damnation. At any rate, I would never, ever ultimate Sir Fowler.

Calimehs ultimate now seems too powerful. One 1/1 token (now a 4/4) can chump block an entire board, probably trade for something too unless the opponent has trample. White does not have problems making tokens.

OH DEAR GOD MY NAME
at any rate, if this hadnt already been discussed, My ult should only be opponents creatures or else it enables infini-sacing
August 17, 2015 6:57 p.m.
kengiczar I see what you're saying about the ultimate being to restrictive, but the version you employed feels very limited. If I'm running him in a discard heavy deck, the emblem would feel useless in a sense where it wouldn't be worth using his ultimate. I guess I could add something like "If they can't, deal one damage to that player." Or something like that, I'm not sure how I feel on that matter.
RedDiomedes Do you think I should make it +2/+2 and can only block one additional creature? Or do you think I should go back to the counter unless they pay thing? I'm not sure which one I like better.

Calimah's +1 and -2 are too similar for my liking and along that same line his +1 is strictly worse than Ajani Vengeant. Also non evergreen keywords haven't been used on planeswalkers thus far so consider using the reminder text of detain rather than the keyword. His ult looks too strong, specifically the "can block any number of creatures" part. Without that part though it looks to similar to Elspeth, Sun's Champion's ultimate. I think the ultimate should read something like this; You get an emblem with "Creatures you control get +1/+1 and have doublestrike, lifelink and can block up to one additional creature". I also think he should cost one cmc more. I have no idea what to do with his +1 now.
August 17, 2015 8:01 p.m.
Well, if I made it tap any permanent for +1, it would just be Tamiyo, the Moon Sage's +1. And you're right about his ult. I'll make the necessary changes when I can get to a computer.

Never mind I forgot what Ajani's +1 did, so I think they are different enough to coexist, but I still think that you should change the +1 or -2 abilities to be different. Perhaps the +1 could be; Tap target creature, it can't attack or block and its activated abilities can't be activated until your next turn. His -2 could also change to become; Put another target nonland permanent on top of its owner's library. That way the abilities are different enough and still useful.

The +1 should say; "Tap up to one target creature" instead of "Tap target creature". The rest is correct.

My prior post references my post before it, I just thought it needed some clarification. Sorry for clogging up the thread with my triple post by the way.
August 17, 2015 8:19 p.m.
No worries. I appreciate the help, so clogging's not too bad if it's for a good cause.

Do those abilities match what you wanted the character to be able to do? Thematically I mean, because those types of abilities are within white and blue's section of the color pie so I just want to make sure you want the character himself to be able to do that.
August 17, 2015 9:21 p.m.
Pretty much, yeah. I wanted to create a planeswalker of each color to represent the style in which the guild is trying to imply. Since there are so many different colors and combination of colors, it's hard to come up with a unique ability for each one.
August 17, 2015 10:49 p.m.
just wanted to say the artwork for keb is the reaper elite specilization's concept art for Guild Wars 2 Necromancer... lol.
August 18, 2015 10:10 a.m.
I like video games, so I like to incorporate artwork from different games into my cards. The Sir Fowler for instance is from Dark Souls, which is one of my favorite games. Plus it just fits the theme for the card.

For Calimeh's +1 ability, it should read "tap up to one target creature" so you can use it even if there's no applicable target(see Jace, Telepath Unbound Flip).
