Nine Gold Cards - Feedback Wanted!
Custom Cards forum

Heyo peeps! As I outlined in Custom Cards Created For Cube, I intend to create custom multicolour cards to partner real multiclour cards in a Multicolour Cube to rule them all! I've been very busy reading up on multicolour design (MaRo has fabulous articles on the basic principles and even each two-colour combination) and I've found that yes, designing cards is very hard!
The following nine cards I want feedback on as, out of all the designs I've been trying, these are the most likely to go into the Cube. I am pleased with them for different reasons, whether the blend flavour together I would a second opinion though, as I worry over power concerns or even just if you think the effect doesn't deserve a hybrid mana symbol or to be a multicolour card. Do you like anymany of the cards? Any stick out to you as ones you would play (especially consider Limited). Any development advice, like cost tweaking or P/T tweaking?
You'll quickly notice that I feel most confident about designing black.

I think Flesh Feast should cost rather than . Mono Green shouldn't be able to have removal like that. Also, the Scorpion seems really strong for a common. Perhaps it should be an uncommon, or only get a +1/+0 boost.
Other than those, I like it. I love to see people make balanced cards, rather than OP-as-fuck PWs all the time

I think Muckstorm could be and dish out -1/-1 counters to each flying creature instead. Feels more.... muck-y.

Thanks for the feedback guys, keep it coming
Glitter Feeder: I can see why it skirts with Baleful Strix levels of creep. But I do want a flyer at that CMC and to combine with bouncing effects rather than be another Surveilling Sprite. Thoughts from others on this one?
Explosive Carousel: 5 mana seems safe to me. And the CMC is a nice nod to Twinstrike.
Flesh Feast: Yeah, that is annoying. Can I get away with such green removal as a one-off, seeing as green has had silly one-off removal before like Beast Within?
Stingtail Butcher: Love this one, but I understand the concern. I did want it's attack buff to get its power u to its toughness rather than flounder below it though, otherwise itd be rather un-red.
-Muckstorm: Wish I could do -1/-1 counters, but keeping away from those as best I can.

I think the Stingtail Butcher is perfectly balanced as an uncommon. Otherwise you have an extremely efficient pseudo-3/3 when the amount of damage matters, and deathtouch when the amount of damage doesn't matter. As far as 3 mana 2/3s, both red and black have commons recently, like Felhide Minotaur and Pensive Minotaur. Usually green gets the 3/3s for 3 (Nessian Courser)
As far as green creature removal, Beast Within stands out because it doesn't only kill creatures. Since this is specifically creatures, it just doesn't seem green. Its not like the card is too powerful for green, and the fact that they need 2 creatures out seems like enough of a drawback for it to be acceptable.

Unforgivn_II: Thank you, that is all fantastic reasoning. I will see if I can come up with a different black/red creature common, but just in case: If I NEED the Stingtail Butcher at common, would you think it would be fair with just a +1/+0 buff?
You're quite right, Beast Within does destroy other permanents, as opposed to Flesh Feast. As for its lack of green-ness, I can see that too; I was hoping the +1/+1 counters element of Cannibalize would be the overlap factor that could make this card reasonably hybrid, but in that mode (the card has several naturally) destroying an enemy creature and giving counters to another of their creatures might not be green enough.

Huh, I'd never even seen Cannibalize. If you want to make it green, make it so that one creature gets the 2 +1/+1 counters, then have the two fight. Have them be from the same controller still. Way more green, and I think a lot better (2-for-1s, buffing your dudes, etc). It might be too strong for 2 mana that way though. It would need testing
Anyway, I think the +1/+0 boost is fair. It still makes it a threat, and strictly better than the Minotaurs. I like it

Here's some more designs. These include another attempt at a common B/R creature bordering on uncommon strength (I guess this needs help tweaking the numbers) while the other two just need to see if they earn the right to be multicoloured.

"Choose two target creatures controlled by the same player. Put two +1/+1 counters on one of those creatures, then it fights the other"
It is DEFINITELY green, but now I actually worry it isn't particularly black! Fighting is green and counters are green, so although creatures likely get destroyed, it is very much all green in presentation. I also don't like the idea of letting this thing be able to 2-for-1 your opponent by having, say, a pair of 3/3s fight each other.
Also, I'm just going to admit my sins: I just want to play Cannibalize in the Modern border.

I guess it would be more red than black if we go with fighting. I mean, I won't be playing this cube, so go ahead and do what you like. Even if I did play it, it wouldn't be that big of an issue. WotC has had their fair share of muddling the color pie. There's enough reasoning behind the +1/+1 counters to have it be green

Nomp: Holy cow, typo. It's meant to read "Pain Bouncer costs 1 less to cast for each 1 LIFE your opponents have lost this turn" It's the Rakdos, Lord of Riots "Paincast" ability, but darn silly typos. That card just needs proper costing if anything. 7 mana, 8 mana, add a keyword ability, I'm just not sure.
'Unforgivn_II: It is true, this is just for my Cube, and a Cube where the color pie blends a lot thanks to the hybrid cards. I just like my designs to be held to standard with real cards and design principles. Thanks for both the vote of confidence and the super helpful discussion!

I would up the power of Pain Bouncer by 1 and call that fairly balanced against cost.

That seems fair. A 5/4 for 7 requiring two colours is Limited playable (if terrible), but dealing damage would make it much more reasonable. I did my costing with the idea that 3 damage would be the typical shaky reduction . But yeah, that's a pretty big hoop to just get a Rhox Brute when Rhox Brute is already in the Cube.

Glitter feeder is probably too good for a common.
Explosive carousel COULD be 4 mana, but for an uncommon that could be too good maybe.
