Norn's Shield

Custom Cards forum

I have made another Phyrexianized version of an existing card (in this case, Story Circle and/or Righteous Aura), as seen here:

Norn's Shield Show

I increased the casting cost of this card over story circle because it allows life to be paid instead of mana, but will still be able to be cast sufficiently early for it to actually have an effect on the game.

What does everyone else think of this card?

Personally, this card seems pretty medium. From a gameplay perspective, at the point when both players are developing, you're probably paying two life to prevent like two or three damage, which seems pretty bad, but later it falls into the Circle of Protection trap where your opponent will end up just having more threats than you have mana, so I think it's pretty medium only because it works against every deck and doesn't care about color.

Funkydiscogod, that is far too expensive, in my mind, since the player will likely have already taken a significant amount of damage by the time that they can afford to spend such a large amount of mana. My card is already more expensive than both story circle and righteous aura, the two cards that inspired it, and I believe that that is sufficient to balance its power.

Funkydiscogod, what if I made the ability cost ? That way, it would still provide the option of not requiring mana (my intention when I made this card), but actually force its controller to be more strategic when requiring a payment of 4 life to stop a single source of damage.
