@CastleSiege I don't think that works like you think it does. Fire the Cannons will only count creatures destroyed before it resolves, not any it deals damage to, as those won't die until after it resolves. You probably want to set up a delayed triggered ability to draw a card whenever a creature dies this turn, sort of like an inverse of Beck / Call

March 9, 2014 6:52 p.m.

CastleSiege says... #2

How should I go about rewording it? "Draw cards equal to the number of creatures destroyed by Fire the Cannons?"

March 9, 2014 7:06 p.m.

matbyrne says... #3

It should read "fire the cannons deals 6 damage divided as you choose among any number of creatures. Then draw cards equal to the number of creatures destroyed this way".

Negation Zone

Name: Lone Warrior

Cost: 2GG

Card Type - Subtype: creature- human warrior

Card Text:

At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice a creature other than Lone Warrion

X, T: if you control no other creatures, search your library for a creature with converted mana cost X or less, and put it onto the battlefield, then put a lonely counter on Lone Warrior.

2GG: Lone Warrior gets +X/+X until the end of the turn, where X is the number of lonely counters on Lonely Warrior.

Flavor Text: They come to my aid because they feel sorry for me, only to die. Why do they insist on trying to help me?

Power / Toughness: 2/2

March 9, 2014 7:58 p.m.

matbyrne says... #6

I think that lonely warrior should be black/green. Sacrificing is primarily a black thing.

March 9, 2014 10:07 p.m.

Not to mention that the flavor is as black as it could be. Don't know if that Creature's flavor is more creepy or depressing. Either quality alone would justify black, and it has both.

March 11, 2014 7:57 p.m.

bantam1234, add Vigilance to Lone Warrior. It doesn't fit the colors quite well, but it does seem necessary

If not, it should be a PT

I'm not sure if I worded this card's text properly (that seems to be the hardest part when it comes to creating cards lol). Can anyone help me out by letting me know if it needs to be reworded?

some_text
March 12, 2014 9:29 p.m.

Bromjunaar says... #13

@CastleSiege, It would probably go something like:

Consuming Vortex XUU

Sorcery (not much need for it to be an enchant) Rare

Suspend X (this takes up a pretty good portion of your text)

When ~ is suspended, exile target creature. When the last time counter is removed, return the exiled creature to the battle field under it's owner's control.

Shuffle ~ into its owner's library.

March 12, 2014 10:05 p.m.

CastleSiege says... #14

I tried making it work with the suspend ability but it just would not work. There were too many conflicting rulings. However, I think I have made it work in a different way while making it better at the same time (realized it was crappy before). Basically the card says, "Keep tapping your mana or else your permanent belongs to me! :3"

some_text
March 12, 2014 11:42 p.m.

CastleSiege says... #15

So I made adjustments to Consuming Vortex again. The mana cost is now 2UU since before there really wasn't any reason to pay more than 1 for X. The exiled permanent now also gets 2 time counters by default.

March 13, 2014 12:26 a.m.

stonescarred Rukh 3RRflying, hexproof4/4

what you guys think? got the inspiration from the Rukh Egg flavor text

March 13, 2014 10:23 p.m.

matbyrne says... #18

Red doesn't really have access to hexproof, and it doesn't fit the flavor of the card anyway. It should have haste instead.

March 14, 2014 7:36 a.m.

matbyrne says... #19

Also, CastleSiege, consuming vortex should probably read as follows

Consuming Vortex

Sorcery

0

Consuming vortex is blue

Suspend X--XUU

When consuming vortex is suspended, exile target permanent with X time counters. If it doesn't have suspend, it gains suspend. When the last time counter is removed, return that permanent to the battlefield under your control.

2: add a time counter to consuming vortex and permanent suspended with it. Use this ability only if consuming vortex is suspended. Only an opponent may use this ability.

March 14, 2014 7:46 a.m.

Ruric says... #20

you see matbyrne it says Rukhs sac their flames for body of stones maybe this new body should have a different ability than the regular one and clearly Rukh havent been made as creature type, i know red doesnt have hexproof yet, but that had happened to double strike too, it 1st came out as a red ability, after some time it was moved to white since G ir friend of R i dont see why cant it be a hexproof in Red at least on one creature, which is not a very common creature type thou

Treskus, the Burdened King

sacrifice two other creatures: counter target spell

War destroys everything it touches. If you're lucky, the damage will only be physical.

2/5

March 14, 2014 9:15 a.m.

CastleSiege says... #22

matbyrne, there's a few problems with the text you suggested.

  1. I don't think you can target a card with a card that is already suspended.

  2. It doesn't say when you may remove a time counter.

  3. It doesn't say what happens to Consuming Vortex when all of its counters are removed.

  4. There's isn't enough room on the card for all of that. :(

March 14, 2014 4:02 p.m.

Ruric says... #23

CastleSiege Fury Charm last option allows you to target a suspended card, but all other thing you said are true :)

March 14, 2014 5:30 p.m.

OpenFire says... #24

The fact that you can't enchant an exiled card is the biggest issue with Consuming Vortex being an Enchantment.

March 14, 2014 6:22 p.m.

CastleSiege says... #25

you enchant it first, then they both become exiled together

March 14, 2014 8:50 p.m.

OpenFire says... #26

nope, it just falls off once the thing it is enchanting leaves play... show me a card that does otherwise.

March 16, 2014 4:28 p.m.

CastleSiege: It would be worded: Exile target permanent, it gains suspend X. At the beginning of each player's upkeep he or she may pay 2 to remove one time counter from the exiled card.

March 19, 2014 7:49 a.m.

matbyrne says... #28

the5ervant: you officially broke undying, dredge, and persist in EDH.

March 19, 2014 10:58 a.m.

the5ervant says... #29

matbyrne- would it make it less broken (i.e. more likely to be playable) if the colors changed to WUG from BUG and it was "exile creature you control" instead of "sacrifice"?

March 19, 2014 11:26 a.m.

matbyrne says... #30

I think that it fits better as BUG. And exile would just make it useless. I'd say make the fog ability cost two creatures and the counterspell cost three. That would still make it useful, but would make it harder to pull off with just a single undying/dredge/persist creature, thereby forcing the deck to be more heavily committed to the idea.

March 19, 2014 3:24 p.m.

hassankachal says... #31

the5ervant I agree with matbyrne. It's broken with only one exile for the fog, so make it two, and for the counter make it "exile 1 creature and pay BUG, counter target spell.

March 19, 2014 3:27 p.m.

hassankachal says... #32

@Dreno33 This has gone from "post your own card idea's for fun:) to post broken cards and have everybody debate whether you have no knowledge in the brokenness of cards. My opinion, and I find it quite amusing.

March 19, 2014 3:30 p.m.

matbyrne says... #33

hassankachal: i don't think the exiling of the creatures is necessary. On top of it being out of color, exiling also means that there is really no way to make an advantage out of it. Sacrificing is more than good enough provided enough fodder is required for the sacrifices. This is a card that screams "turn reanimator decks into control decks" and it would make BUG viable in EDH. Besides, without access to white, I don't think a green token deck can provide enough fuel for the continuous sacrifices once the costs are raised.

Urman of the Crucifix

Legendary Creature - Human Knight

JimothyCrikkett, Magic has had a long battle with real-world religious icons and worship.

They had to change some cards' art, such as the first printings of Unholy Strength including a pentagram. Other cards, like the card Preacher , also mimic real life religious imagery and received some attention from scornful eyes.

Using the word "Crucifix" and "Word (In this sense)" seems like a bad idea. You could instead make up another religious symbol of your own instead of alluding to Christianity, sort of like the Avacyn icon that emblazons the shields and sword-hilts of the Innistrad soldiers.

Thebigshaggy I like your changeling assassin card! its overpowered currently, but has great potential!

Try this:

Name: Changeling Assassin (think of a cooler name! haha)

Cost: 1 (B/U)(B/U)(B/U) = CMC of 4 with 3 hybrid black/blue mana symbols

Card Type: Creature - Rogue Assassin

Card Text:

  • Changeling

  • As long as it is your turn Changeling Assassin gets +3/+0 and gains first strike and fear.

  • As long as it is not your turn Changeling Assassin gets +0/+2 and gains shroud.

P/T: 0/3

This balances the card a bit more I feel and fits the theme a bit more. Notice the card text change, mana cost change, and the creature type change.

March 22, 2014 9:43 p.m.

Thebigshaggy says... #41

Well all Changeling cards are shapeshifters, creature-wise. But yeah, it was overpowered. Thanks.

Toughness below zero always causes a creature to die, it's a safeguard to indestructibility. I would suggest it being a 2/2 and being indestructible, along with lifelink.

March 24, 2014 10:15 p.m.

h20, leave time alone is really too overpowered just for "If none of the above happened, the game ends in a draw." The fact that you can end the game at any time in a draw is terrible. Your opponent swings for game, and in response, you play leave time alone. Nobody wins. Ever. The only outcomes pretty much ever are that either you will win, or your opponent will almost win, but- oops, it's a tie! "Good" game!
