@cschiller but it has no CMC so you can't ever play it from your hand. You can only suspend it which will make you lose...why would you do that? (Also, 60 card deck, 7 cards drawn, an 8th or 9th before you play 2 lands...when does suspend ever go off?)
October 30, 2013 12:22 a.m.
That's a lot cleaner. I wonder if you could tidy it up a little more (ironically) with the use of some suitably gross counters.
Dissect X (Exile target creature you control. Add a number of Guts counters to ~ equal to the converted mana cost of the exiled creature. Remove all Guts counters from ~ at end of turn)
B, remove all Guts counters from ~: Target player reveals X cards from their hand. You may choose one and exile it.
U, remove all Guts counters from ~: Target player reveals the top X cards of their library. You may choose one and exile it. Then put the rest back on the top of their library in any order.
UU: Create a copy of an instant or sorcery exiled by ~ this turn. You may cast that copy without paying its mana cost.
BB: Put a creature exiled by Hans Zarkov onto the battlefield under your control. It has haste. Sacfirice that creature at the beginning of the next upkeep.
Not trying to like, trample all over your card or anything, I'm just a sucker for proper templating of abilities.

4 Loyalty
+1 Target creature gains Shroud and Intimidate until you next upkeep.
0 Draw two cards from your library and put them face down on the field. Then, your opponent chooses one. Add that card to your hand and put the other on the bottom of your library.
-2 Exile Dread Pirate Roberts. Then you may search your library for a card named Dread Pirate Roberts and put it into play.
-10 Your opponents life total becomes 1. As long as Dread Pirate Roberts is in play your opponent cannot gain or lose life.

I messed the last ability up, It should read "Target opponents" not "your opponents".
October 31, 2013 7:47 p.m.
Okay, Badhand, I think Roberts' -2 ability is one of the best things I've ever seen on a magic card.
October 31, 2013 9:03 p.m.
Devonin: True. How would I word the card? I want a giant suspend artifact with enters the battlefield, oppontent loses the game, but I don't want people to be able to dicard and then second sunrise it. Lotus Bloom has no CMC, that works.
October 31, 2013 11:47 p.m.
Well, the problem with how you phrased it is that it took insurmountably long to fire off, and then when it did, the way you wrote it, you would lose the game not an opponent. Also, I'm not sure with that name, that it would be an artifact at all. It seems to me like it would be a sorcery, probably with a black colour identity.
Maybe something like this?
Foreshadowing of Doom
(B) Sorcery
Mythic Rare
(Nonexistent mana costs can't be paid.)
Suspend 10 - (BB)
When you cast Foreshadowing of Doom, if you cast it from exile, target player loses the game, otherwise you lose the game.
A 10 turn clock on turn 2 is not actually that unreasonable, as most decks are going to otherwise be done winning or losing by then anyway. It also gives your opponent 10 turns to be sitting on a counterspell making you need to deal with that too.
The clause that makes the spell cause -you- to lose if it was cast from any zone besides Exile stops shenanigans like an Epic Experiment hitting it as a 0-cost spell. It can -only- be cast from Exile to get the effect you want.
There's really no way to make this competitive in any format but EDH/Casual unless you allow it to be cast from places other than exile (which it seems you wanted to ensure) because then you could cheat it with "without paying its mana cost" spells and abilities.
Written this way, your options to make it work better than being forced to wait the full 10 turns are:
1/ Casting it via a 'without paying mana cost' ability, and then counter it yourself with Delay which sets the clock to only 3 turns (which works however many suspend counters it has)
2/ Suspending it via Jhoira of the Ghitu instead of its own suspend (which works no matter how many suspend counters it has)
Some combo of Clockspinning , Dust of Moments , Fury Charm , Jhoira's Timebug , Timebender , and Timecrafting , but really, none of these are good enough to make it worth building the deck outside casual play, and the few that are at all efficient work even with more counters on.

PotatoPi - Wait, that card exists. =OI was making it as a joke (yellow mana since most multicoloured spells have yellow borders) but that is actually cool that such a land exists.
Triforce-Finder That card is extremely broken in it's wording. Add a mana for each basic lands you control. So it doubles your mana base effectively. It needs something like pay 2 life when you tap it at the very least - else wise that card would need to be in every deck ever. (especially mono-coloured decks)
November 1, 2013 10:27 p.m.
Triforce-Finder says... #25
Actually, I think you're misreading it. It gives you one mana for every basic land type, not every basic land. Also, compare to Gaea's Cradle .

Triforce-FinderAh yes, I believe I missed the word 'type'. Not as broken as I thought. XDGaea's Cradle isn't actually that great in a lot of green decks. Works fantastic for token decks

Oh gawd, I just came up with a freaking amazing card (especially for this current block).
Mythis rare of course
Name: Minotaur Combatant
Cost: RG
Card Type - Subtype: Creature - Minotaur
Card Text: Hexproof, First Strike
Whenever Minotaur Combatant fights another creature put a +1/+1 counter on it.
You may skip your combat step, if you do Minotaur Combatant fights target creature you don't control. Minotaur Combatant must attack each turn if able.
Flavor Text: Who needs fists when you can crush the skulls of your opponents in with your very own forehead?
Power / Toughness: 2/1
I orgionally had it as 2 +1/+1 counters but thought that would be a bit too OP.
Anyway this card would just be the perfect Gruul card in my opinion. It grows and removes enemies by fighting. It has first strike for red flavour and hex proof for green. It plays nice with a lot of green 'fight target creature' spells and cheap red combat tricks. It's also a nice blend of choosing between midgame/lategame or aggro - depending which ever you choose or is better for the match up. Against blue aggro would be better while against devotion decks you could just remove their means of pumping Nykthos and the Gods.
November 2, 2013 12:25 a.m.
Triforce-Finder says... #28
Nice one. It might be a bit hard to get it going though. You would need to buff it so it survives the first fight. Just to be sure we're talking about the same thing: "fight" means that both creatures deal damage equal to their power to each other. Since first strike only works in combat, not for fighting, Minotaur combatant takes damage equal to the other creatures power. The ability that gives it counters triggers on the fighting, so it won't give you the counter before the fight. Unless your opponent plays creatures with 0 power, it's gonna die. And many of those with 0 power have more than 2 toughness.
My way of fixing that would be to make it 1/2 instead of 2/1. That way, you could fight 1/1 creatures for buildup, which are a lot more common.
From what I gathered, each point in power or toughness adds half a mana to the cmc, while abilities range between half a mana and two mana. I think you'd get away with either making the cost 1RG or with leaving it at RG and dropping first strike. That's still really effective, but a bit more reasonable.
Otherwise, it's a card I wouldn't mind spending a few bucks on. Nice one.
November 2, 2013 1:11 a.m.
Ultimaodin says... #29
Really, because I fought a creature last night in draft and he gave it double strike. So if double strike works for fight cards why can't first strike? Or did I get jipped there. Either way was meant to make it a 2/2
November 2, 2013 1:48 a.m.
Triforce-Finder says... #30
I messed that up too when I first saw "fight" on a card. I'll try to gather the facts without using masses of text...
- First and double strike work by adding an extra damage step to the battle phase.
- First and double strike work only for combat.
- Combat does not include fights.
- Fights do not follow the rules for combat, or to be precise, the battle phase.
So, if someone tried to use double strike outside of normal combat, they were mistaken.

Awww, jipped as.
Anyway, the Amended version, a bit more balanced:

Flavor Text (if room): Who needs fists when you can crush the skulls of your opponents in with your very own forehead?
Power / Toughness: 2/2
November 2, 2013 2:09 a.m.
Triforce-Finder says... #32
Yep, that's good. The templating could use some polish, but this thread is for fun, so I'm not going to bother you about it. Adding haste is an interesting touch in combination with the forced attack. I guess it depends on the situation if that's an advantage or rather a drawback. Nice idea.

Triforce-Finder says... #48
@ jonhydude and Thebigshaggy
I think -5 is enough. It's going to destroy only one permanent that way, after all.
Since it would destroy one more permanent after each turn, the player has to make a gamble on when to activate its ultimate. The constant re-evaluation of the chances for that gamble is what keeps a card interesting over multiple turns/games. I like that design.
The name seems to be missing a noun at the end, but I guess "Storm Crow, Descending Crow" isn't any better. Is he/she really a crow or is that just his/her name?
November 4, 2013 2:02 a.m.
Thebigshaggy says... #49
Storm Crow is the card to which I was referring. The flavor text explains my counter names.
The descending and departing are adjectives, such as Azusa, Lost but Seeking 's name.
November 4, 2013 2:07 a.m.
Triforce-Finder says... #50
Hm, that's why it sounded familiar. Makes a lot more sense now, although the "winter's messenger" theme was quite obvious, even without that flavor.
Of course a single adjective is legit to be a title by itself, all I'm saying is that it sounds like something's supposed to follow, maybe because many titles have two or more words. Especially if you don't remember that flavor text. Azusa, Lost but Seeking ships around that by joining two adjectives. But hey, it's your card, name it as you like.
