@ Devonin When you say "best" do you mean broken or just funny?
November 5, 2013 12:28 a.m.
@Badhand Oh it's not broken at all. It just perfectly captures that element of the character of Roberts.

Here's an Idea I almost dismissed because I absolutely dislike randomness (not a single coin toss among all of my cards, i usually tear those to pieces (the cards, not the coins) ). But it's quite reliable if you can prevent single points of damage or have another harmonic essence shield in play. Also, remember that the life total can drop below zero, so picking "even" isn't safer than "odd" by default.
Harmonic Essence Shield
- 2WW
- Enchantment
- When this card enters the field, choose "odd" or "even".
- If a source would deal damage to you that sets your life total to a number of the chosen quality, prevent that damage and you gain that much life instead.
- "We're save as long as the shield frequency matches that of their beams." Popular quote from Floggelwyrths Book of Hilarious Last Words

Snowstorm I feel it needs white in the cost. Blue is probably the least appropriate colour wise. Green fits the idea of strong surviving, red fits the dmage to all and white fits the balance of it. (plus white has life gain to put you ahead)

The reason for blue is because blue is usually associated with cold things magic wise.
a example would be this or this Winter's Chill
November 6, 2013 3:05 a.m.
@Triforce-Finder Even though life can go below zero, I still feel like you're much better off picking even. The number of times I've been dealt exactly lethal damage anecdotally outweighs the number of times a huge alpha strike has come in by a large margin.
Just change the syntax to "If a source would deal damage to you that sets your life total to a positive number of the chosen quality" and it's not even a concern anymore.

Snowstorm Wasn't the entirety of the Ice Age, Cold Snap, the other snow themed one, sets related to being cold - regardless of colour wheel position. There were even snow mountains for the snow lands.I just don't think flavour wise it suits blue.

Triforce-Finder says... #17
@ Devonin
It's actually not an issue that the effect can negate damage exceeding lethal. It secures at least a mathematical equality of chances for either choice. Practically, however, the opponent wont spend extra recources to deal more damage than necessary, for example when casting Fireball . Most effects are not capable of dealing variable damage, though. So it will happen often enough that you end up with -1 or -3 etc.
Limiting the effect to positive life totals would actually create an even bigger imbalance towards "even". The only lethal damage that could be prevented is exact lethal damage, as zero is usually treated as even number in MtG. Also, I can see that causing heated discussions about zero being positive or not. Don't want that weighing down my karma...
I'm sorry if it sounded like describing a problem, because I was attempting to preemptively counter critics that wouldn't take negative life totals into account. I appreciate the thought nonetheless, thanks for being helpful.

@ Ultimaodin and Snowstorm
Blue represents the the elemental forces of water and air. Physically, Blue is associated with speed, flight, fluidity, movement and the like. I think a snowstorm is a perfect representation of those elements, snow being frozen water crystals, and a storm being very fast moving air. Snowflakes definitely carry the quality of flight when a storm lashes them around. But the one thing that definitely justifies blue is that it's a weather phenomenon.
In a snowstorm, Light is either refracted or completely blocked out, sight is near zero. Even the plainest plains are thick as a forest at night when a snowstorm rages over them. So, that's a clear point against the flavor being related to white. Sun and snow don't exactly go together well (ask frosty, the snowman), that could be seen as another point against white.
Snow isn't really white, just as water isn't really blue. It just looks that way, both are actually colorless. Just a thought that might ease the topic up a little...

Reconstruct the Realms - 5WUBRG
Sorcery
Each Player, Starting with you, loses X life, shuffles all cards he or she owns in the game into their library, and then reveals X cards from the top of their library where X is the number of permanents that player controls plus the number of cards in that player's hand and graveyard.
For each non-land permanent card revealed this way, put that card onto the battlefield.
For each non-permanent card revealed this way, exile that card and that player may play that card at anytime as though it had flash.
For each land card revealed this way, put that card onto the battlefield tapped and that player gains 2 life.
November 7, 2013 4:13 a.m.
Lose life equal to Play, Hand and Graveyard, and then only gain back 2 per land revealed? That's pretty much going to be a "everybody loses, game is a draw" card almost all of the time.

I changed some of the wording, does it work better now? Also I'd like to think that because a lot of magic cards tend to have additional rulings on the website, I can just state here that:
Reconstruct the Realms affects players in turn order, starting with you and then repeating the process again for each other player in turn order.
Permanents placed on the battlefield are placed at the same time, abilities on cards will be put onto the stack and will resolve after Reconstruct the Realms has fully resolved.
Abilities that activate as Reconstruct the Realms resolves, will resolve after Reconstruct the Realms has fully resolved, the order in which the abilities resolve are in turn order starting with you.

@BlastercoolWeird So does that mean I have to Lightning Bolt my opponent twice before I can attack him/her?
November 8, 2013 10:54 p.m.
BlastercoolWeird says... #29
@jonhydude I suppose? Or you could get hit by their Lightning Bolt twice. or you ransack them with a bunch of attackers. or if there's an Inferno
Point here is Fossilized Dragon is lazy (and a mostly dead skeleton) so it won't get wake up unless someone is having a really bad day.

Obdurate. (This card can target permanents who normally have protection from it.)
Tap: destroy target permanent. Play only as a sorcery on your turn. Any player may use this ability on their turn.
Nothing escapes.
0/1
An idea I had years ago on a different forums page. The idea was that you could destroy anything on the field, extremely overpowered, but an opponent could use the same ability on their turn. Also thought it would be best as a creature.

November 9, 2013 8:20 a.m.
Triforce-Finder says... #36
There's a reason for cards that can't be countered to exist. Every build needs a nemesis, and control decks are already annoying enough as it is.
November 9, 2013 1:23 p.m.
BlastercoolWeird says... #37
Problem with that, besides it just being a very narrow card design, is that I'm pretty sure "Can't" trumps "can" in regards to this sort of thing. Kind of like how Defenders can't attack even if forced
November 9, 2013 2:11 p.m.
Figured perhaps that she could break out her plane and spread her horde to other planes.
November 9, 2013 3:30 p.m.
@wwhitegoldd You'll find that BlastercoolWeird is right that a "can't" overrules a "can" (It's one of the Magic Golden Rules)
It would also be incredibly messy and possibly not even work to try and template your way around it. If uncounterability was a keyword, it would be trivial. Assume they replace the clause
"CARDNAME can't be countered by spells or abilities" with the keyword "Uncounterable"
You could easily make a spell
The Unthinkable
UU
Instant
The Unthinkable can only target spells with Uncounterable.
Target spell loses Uncounterable
Counter Target Spell
But as long as it isn't a keyword, I don't think you can template a spell to only be able to target 'cards whose rules text includes 'can't be countered by spells or abilities'
And if it can ONLY counter spells which are otherwise uncounterable, it needs to only cost U, as it is a completely dead card in almost every circumstance.
Alternately, within the existing rules and templating, you could print something like
The Unthinkable
2UUU
Instant
Exile target spell
That would get you passed uncounterability, and everything else, but since it also works on non-uncounterable things and exiles instead of putting in the graveyard, it needs to cost WAAY more than UU to not be insanely broken.
