I've been theorizing a bit about some C16 commanders, tell me what you think!

Trying to stick to the XP theme, and I'm making the assumption that they will be ally-colored, and I will try to keep them around the cost / power level of the C15 commanders.

I'm mostly an esper guy so my best ideas have been in that shard. Can't really think of interesting ways to make the other colors interact :P anyway here we go-

Remnok the Noxious

Legendary Creature - Wizard Horror

2/3

Whenever a spell or ability you control causes one or more opponents to place cards from the top of his or her library into his or her graveyard, you get an experience counter.

At the beginning of your end step, each opponent places the top X cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard, where X is the number of experience counters you have.

NOTES-

-Dimir needs a legit mill commander, and all that mill needs is a way to hit all opponents.

-Encourages many small instances of mill instead of big ones like most mill decks run. (Phenax, God of Deception would be great in the 99!)

-Yes, he gives himself one XP per turn after you have at least one XP. But mill needs that little extra push, and removing that makes the card too wordy since you have to add restrictions.

Lenas Lightfeather

Legendary Creature - Bird Spirit

0/5

Flying, Defender

At the beginning of your end step, if you didn't lose life since your last turn, you get an experience counter.

Creatures can't attack you or a planeswalker you control unless their controller pays , where X is the number of experience counters you have.

NOTES-

-Azorius is pretty much the pillow fort color combo, so why not turn it into a commander?

-Like most of the other xp commanders he can give you benefit the turn you play him if the game is going well.

-Was considering making him a 2/2 flyer for attacking, but overall I think the flavor is better if he can't attack at all. Makes for a great defensive control shell.

Well, what do you think?

Feel free to post your C16 creations! Still trying to work out the other 3 color combos.

i think these are pretty cool xp wise. Also i would make lenas 5 mana so you cant get her out on turn two with a soul ring in hand. For instance, Sol Ring, Plains, Island, Propaganda, Ghostly Prison, Sphere of Safety, two other pillow fort cards would be an op hand.

Lucious, the Bloodseeker -

Legendary Creature - Vampire Warrior

4/2

At the beginning of your upkeep, if a creature an opponent controls dealt damage to you since your last end step you get an experience counter.

At the beginning of each opponents end step, creatures he or she control get -X/-X, where X is the amount of experience counters.

Not all that great I think but it gets the job done. The wording makes it so only one can be gained each upkeep but the reward is amazing

Are they keeping the EXP in the '16 set for sure?

I like the ideas of mill, pay to attack, and - counters - they all need quite a bit more balance though lol. Mill that can trigger its own EXP counter is too good, especially if it's crammed into a mill heavy deck. Same for the RB Vamp, just let a bunch of weenies poke at you and suddenly you've got a consistent -5/-5 or more on the field. The Azorus is too difficult IMO.

I dont think they are keeping exp counters in '16

each year has their own thing: '13 has "amount of mana to cast it" ability'14 has planeswalker commander'15 had experience counters'16 ??????

iBleedPunk says... #6

Obviously they wont be keeping the same mechanic Ostrichman01 its just a fun post for the "imagination" lol

And GearNoir everyone had trouble facing off against Meren of Clan Nel Toth until they realised

"Hey, if I kill Meren then the deck is more or less stalled for abit"

The mindset is if you have nothing to protect yourself against your opponents commander then why do you even play EDH? In the format of innumerable variables you have to be prepared

Pokemaster325, i was just answering GearNoir's question, not being boring. Also, just curious, did you get any of the pre-con commander decks, if so, which ones?

Custom cards belong in the forum of the same name. SRS is for discussion of real or rumored cards only.

My bad then mate. And I have had the chance of getting a few pre-cons, out of which Daretti, Scrap Savant has shown to be the most powerful imo as a possible T4 Blightsteel Colossus is ridiculously obsurd but effective.

Pre-cons ive bought (by commander name)

Fren, Eater of Cities

Hydra

Green/Red 1 colorless cmc 3

3/3

Whenever an opponent casts an artifact, enchantment, or plays a nonbasic land gain an experience counter(last one optional)

At the beginning of your end step Fren, Eater of Cities gets x +1/+1 counters where x is equal to the number of experience counters you have

When Fren, Eater of cities dies distribute X +1/+1 counters equal to the number on Fren to any number of target creatures, then destroy target artifact, enchantment, or nonbasic land.

(i know this is kinda too strong and wouldn't happen but id love something like this. also yes i intentionally want the counters to be able to distribute wherever you see fit, including opponents creatures.)

the way to balance Fren out now that i think about it would be that you lose an experience counter if you cast and artifact enchantment or play a non basic that'd bring him in line.

I think this is a pretty useful exercise. Alrighty, these are my ideas;

Ragnarok the Butcher

3

Legendary Creature- Demon Minotaur

5/4

First Strike, Haste, Menace

At the beginning of each upkeep, if an opponent lost life last turn, you get an experience counter.

At the beginning of each combat, target opponent loses X life, where X is EC. Then, deal X damage to each creature neither you or that opponent controls.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Domri Kord

4

Legendary Creature- Human Werewolf

2/2

Haste, Hexproof

Whenever DK or another creature transforms, you get an EC.

Other creatures you control have hexproof.

At the beginning of each upkeep, look at the top X cards of your library, where X is EC. If a creature card is among them, you may put it into your hand. If you do, you may transform DK. Put the rest on the bottom of Library in any order.

///////////////

Arlinn Rade

Identity:

Legendary Creature- Werewolf

5/5

Menace

Whenever AR or a creature you control transforms, you get an EC.

Creatures you control have trample and creature spells you cast can't be countered.

At the beginning of each combat, you may have creatures you control get +X/+X until end of turn, where X equals number of EC. Then, you may transform AR.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Orchard of Blessings

1

2/12

Defender, Lifelink, Reach

When one or more tokens enter the battlefield under you control, you get an EC.

At the beginning of your end step, you may put X copies of target token onto the battlefield, where X is the number of EC.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Quite frankly, I think most of these creatures are waaaay too strong, but it is really fun to come up with these sort of things.

Fren, Eater of Cities

hydra

cmc 3 1red/1green/1colorless

3/3

Trample

Whenever an artifact, enchantment, or nonbasic land an opponent controls is destroyed get an xp counter.

Moorl, the Summoncaster
Legendary Druid Wizard
2/2
Each nonland card in your hand has morph, and its morph cost is its casting cost. Whenever you turn a morphed card face up, cast it, and put a +1/+1 counter on up to two target creatures you control.
