Balanced cards in the custom cards forum? What is this madness?
December 22, 2015 6:02 a.m.
@ vault, we can't allow this.
0 cmc "chalice of broken dreams"Artifact"Pay 3 colorless to give to an opponent""Pay 1 colorless to tap""Chalice of broken dreams doesn't untap during your untap step.""Chalice of broken dreams untaps during your end step.""If chalice of broken dreams is untapped during your upkeep, you lose the game."

I like making cards. I'll be posting my random ideas here for now on
December 22, 2015 11:58 a.m.
So is this the Just Chatting of custom cards? I'm ok with that.
December 22, 2015 1:40 p.m.
Here's a card I just thought of. vault was my inspiration.
Golgari Vault B/G
Artifact
Golgari Vault doesn't untap during your untap step.
At the beginning of your upkeep you may pay 4, if you do untap Golgari Vault.
At the beginning of your draw step, if Golgari Vault is tapped, it deals 1 damage to you.
Tap, add 1BG to your mana pool.

Here's what I think Jor Kadeen should have been:
Jor Kadeen, Inspiring Leader - 3WR
Legendary Creature - Human Soldier
First Strike
Metalcraft - As long as you control three or more artifacts, creatures you control get +1/+1 and have Battle Cry.

That Scroll of Tidings is stronger than Jace Beleren in a number of ways, I feel.

In a sense it could be but you have to dump mana into it so it's still a bit balanced imo.
December 22, 2015 5:09 p.m.
So I've got this sweet custom card idea that I wish had been in standard:
Name: Jace, Vyrn's Prodigy
Cost:
Type: Okay you see where I'm going with this right?
All joking aside:
Name: Xenagos' Despair
Cost:
Type: Enchantment - Aura
Text: Enchanted creature gets -X/-X where X is the number of creatures on the battlefield. If enchanted creature would be put into a graveyard return this card to it's owners hand.
I think if Xenagos does come back he'll be a little more wicked than he was before. The card is like the total inverse of Rancor + Xenagos, the Reveler. You need your opponent to have many creatures to kill their big creature, it shrinks instead of grows, and it only goes back to hand if the creature dies which makes it a little more balanced compared to things like Shattergang Brothers + Spreading Algae or Rancor + Shattergang Brothers . All in all I would not play this card and I would not pick it in draft. But still, it's flavorful and balanced, the type of thing WotC likes to put into their uncommon slot.
December 29, 2015 3:16 a.m.
Eh I should say VampireArmy that I posted the Xenagos card here because I wanted you to take a look at it : )

Creature- Human
Norin the Deranged cannot block.
Whenever another creature enters the battlefield or attacks, each player loses 1 life.
2/1
"I have a bad feeling about this."- last known words of Norin the Wary"
January 25, 2016 11:42 p.m.
I don't know enough about Norin to know if this is thematically correct, but seems powerful, but balanced. Also, should be a Legendary Creature.

Gisa and Geralf, Master Necromancers-
Legendary Creature - Human
Morbid: if a creature died this turn, choose one:
Return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped. It becomes a black zombie in addition to it's colors and types.
Target player puts the top 5 cards from their library into thier graveyard.
3/3
February 1, 2016 9:39 p.m.
This card is so fucking awesome. Almost too strong, but the colors lack the inherently powerful ETB effects, so it would have to be a combo build to be powerful, so I think that balances it while still allowing it to be Tier 1 or close to it. Also, when does Morbid trigger? End step?
February 2, 2016 3:57 a.m.
@vault+VampireArmy mabey,
"Morbid: If a creature died this turn, you MAY..."
Activate this ability only anytime you could cast a sorcery.

In my sleepiness, i worded it wrong. Fixed it.
Morbid - At the beginning of each end step, if a creature died this turn, choose one:

it's a creature with a form of undying that instead of coming back as a creature, comes back as an aura to buff one of your dudes.
February 3, 2016 9:54 p.m.
If you have no other creatures, does it just go back to the graveyard? Do you have to pay the one R when it enters the battlefield, or is that just a color indicator? Why does the card change color?
February 3, 2016 11:05 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #31
Oh i see how that could be confusing. If it has no valid targets, it does go back to the grave
That's just the indicator
It changes because thematically, those are red abilities. I thought about how a spirit would be pissed off about "dying" and use the last of its strength to possess a friendly creature to give it extra strength to enact its revenge.

ItchiUchiha117 says... #32
Given the information present on the card and the way the rules currently work, I'll give answers as best I could, without being in Mr. Army's head.
- If you have no creatures, it would be unable to target anything with the triggered ability and therefore fizzle, never leaving the graveyard at all. That said, the Aura side should say "Enchant creature (you control)".
- It appears to be just a color indicator, given that no DFCs have mana costs on side #2.
- Not a clue. Fits flavorfully, given names and ability, but I don't know why he wanted the card to begin with. Not a bad card and not saying he shouldn't come up with it or anything like that, I just don't know his motivations. Maybe he just wanted to have fun with an ancestral spirit getting pissed off.
February 3, 2016 11:14 p.m.
I understand the abilities are red, I'm just trying to understand the choice from a flavor perspective. A protective spirit (which is already dead) changes from protective to enraged upon its . . . redeath? I'm not really concerned with that part, I'm questioning why it would go from protective to enraged.
February 3, 2016 11:15 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #34
Oh well that's easy. Wouldn't you be angry if you failed to protect something via dying? Like knowing that now that you're dead, there's nothing you can do but watch your protectee die? Granted the wording could be altered to:
Whenever another creature you control dies, etcetera.
But i think either way it's acceptable. Hell if anyone wanted to use or modify these cards for a funsies cube, I'm fine with that.
