Green definitely should NOT care about artifacts, and he's PREVENTING HIS OWN DAMAGE??
But how cool is this!
- Also it looks like someone slapped Garruk's armor onto a giant and I absolutely love that lol
Definitely a blue card if printed normally, but I could see this as a Planar Chaos/Future Sight-style approach to artifact removal. Great flavor. Where did the art come from? It's perfect for the card.
Only major note is that it should be a replacement ability, not a triggered ability. "If Stonestealer Giant would deal combat damage to a player, you may instead prevent..."

If this saw print, it would definitely find its way into my giant deck.
Question: Why not make this a combat damage trigger, period? Preventing the damage is a drawback and definitely works flavourwise, but I don't see it being all that necessary. It's a six drop without haste or any form of protection, so having this survive a turn and untapping with it to steal one artifact seems like an appropriate payoff.

Isn't it a combat damage trigger? It says whenever he deals combat damage, you may prevent it... Sounds to me like dealing combat damage is the trigger?
Or do you mean when anything deals the combat damage? Idk that seems pretty broken, reaching outside of a card that is already violating the color pie pretty hard.
Green is known for haste. In fact, green is the second most ubiquitous for haste in MTG at 110 spells in the game if you only consider mono-green. When you allow for other colors mixed in, it jumps to just a hair over double, with 221 mentions.

What I meant is you'd propably not need the damage prevention (which, as legendofa said, should be a replacement effect). Simply doing this on Stonestealer Giant dealing combat damage without having to prevent the damage seems just fine for me.

"Whenever" is a marker word for triggered abilities, and "instead" is a marker word for replacement abilities. As it stands, the ability tries to prevent damage (the effect) that's already been dealt (the trigger). It's trying to "undamage" the opponent, not prevent damage.

I always like mechanics like this, that have a good theme or story behind how the mechanic works. 10/10!!

I love this! It reminds me of some older cards that allowed you to trade combat damage for an ability. This feels like a modern version of Floral Spuzzem, and that is wonderful!
I also like that the power starts high so you're almost guaranteed to get something good, rather than having to increase its power separately to swipe more powerful artifacts.
Excellent design!

Oh, I like this. I really like this. Only notes I'm taking are that the P/T is a bit low for a rare. A 7/7 trampler with this ability feels rare, but a 6/6 feels uncommon. Kind of a nitpick though, I love flavorful color bends (even if my friends eat me alive for it)
