The Prismatic Piper, but better.

I always thought that The Prismatic Piper was super weak, but one small edit can make it super powerful.

The Prismatic Piper, Tooter of Horns

Legendary Creature - Shapeshifter

If The Prismatic Piper, Tooter of Horns is your commander, choose a color before the game begins. The Prismatic Piper, Tooter of Horns is the chosen color.

Double Partner (You can have two other commanders if all have Partner.)

3/3

Way too good. There is literally no reason to ever not run this with partners. Free extra color, extra free card, one less card in your deck. You could make it so the other partners have to be mono color, but even then it's really pushing it just by thinning the deck for free.

Grubbernaut: Maybe add a condition like with companions?

What have I created

I think the partnering aspect wouldn't be the way to power up a Piper-style card.

A generic but fair effect for a 5 (or more) drop could be something like "At the beginning of your upkeep, draw a card." Or "at the beginning of your precombat main phase, add one mana of (card name)'s color."

My main inspiration for this was that I was sad that you couldn't have a 5-color partner pairing.

Even 4c partners are generally considered overpowered, and the only decks better than them are 5c. I think you'd need a new cycle of substantially lower power "partners with" commanders to justify letting it be 5c.

You are correct--Prismatic Partner is a weak card, and that is by design. If it were remotely playable--and by that, I mean playable to the point where you would want to run it over another partner that gave you access to that additional color--it would be extraordinarily problematic.

It is a card designed for one purpose and one purpose only--making sure that you can play limited commander and ensure that you have a commander in your color, even if you manage to draft/open in sealed a bunch of one color, but no legends in that color.

If I where to do an upgrade I'd do something like if you pick red it gets haste blue flying green trample white lifelink green hexproof and maybe up it to 4/4

I never did understand Piper. So, I get that it was meant for Draft... suppose you drafted a ton of red cards, but no red Commanders. Piper allowed you to play those red cards, by choosing red.

But at the same time, if you had a mix of other colored Commanders to choose from, wouldn't it have been better to have had something rather than nothing?

Idk. I didn't attend pre-release / draft so I'm out of my element on this one.

So Tooter here actually allows you 4 Commanders if you happen to make some sort of abomination with Companion. Gross. But super powerful. Brokenly powerful, because what you can now do is add a 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th color to any combination you want.

The last thing Tharsios and Tymna need is . Lol. There'd be literally no reason to not just run WUBRG T&T.
