Tibalt does deserve to be better!!! So I came up with Condemnation, but how to make it fair is another thing. Does anyone have some idea's?

Tibalt, the Damned 8RB

Condemnation (if this card is the first card you draw this turn, put it into play. You may use its planewalker abilities more than once each turn, if you use it more then six times, you lose the game.)

OK, but what are his abilities? Also, needs to do a TON for it to be worthwhile. Furthermore, there should be a cost to "Miracle" a planeswalker into play. Like Condemnation or something like that.

I like the Condemnation mechanic a lot. Anywho for a 10 drop that's possibly free I assume his abilities mostly affect the board in non exile form or affect your hand? Possibly if he has a -1 make it Chaos Warp since he normally costs 10!

How about balance? No? Ok.

Yeah, any mechanic that lets you play a 10 mana spell for free just by drawing it, then quintupling its power as a bonus, usually breaks a few important rules of the game. Something about how it's not fun or balanced to print a card that lets you win the game on turn one off of just one random card.

The best way to make that mechanic fair would be to never put it on a card.

Epochalyptik - Would it be "better" if it were closer to a Miracle type effect rather than a Cascade type effect? Minus all the other mumbo-jumbo?

It's a really powerful keyword, but it's only busted if his abilities are good and he can ultimate first turn. For balance you would have to make each ability minuscule, and keep the ultimate out of range for a turn or two.

Creating a really powerful ability that you can only put on really bad cards is still bad design.

Something more like Miracle would probably be better. I like the original ideas however as JWiley says there needs to be some sort of cost. As others have pointed out you need to be able to play them without any sort of of free/reduced cost and they need to be fairly costed in either scenario.

Say he normally costs 6 (BBRR2), with miracle costs 4 (BR2). Starts out with 4 counters.

+1 is Faithless Looting ? That or target players discards 2 cards then draws 2 cards to really mess people up.

-2 is Chaos Warp but reveals until targets owner hits a permanent (or regularly).

-7 or 8 is an emblem with "Whenever you draw a card you may discard a card at random, if you do put the top card of your library into your hand." <- Says "put" for the second part so you can't draw your whole deck.

The way I was trying to write it is I cast Brainstorm draw 1 card then discard at random to put another card into my hand. So if Brainstorm was my last spell when I cast it I now have 1 card whether I choose to use the emblem or not regardless of using the emblem.

Now lets say I had one other card in hand when I cast Brainstorm. That means after I draw the 1st from the spell I have 2 in hand. Randomly discard one of those 2, put another into hand. Still at 2. Now draw 2nd card for brainstorm. 3 in hand, randomly discard 1, put one in hand and am back at 3. Now draw last card from Brainstorm for four in hand. None of those four are what I need so I randomly discard and then put the top card into my hand. Lastly I put two cards back according to Brainstorm /s text.

The word choice on the emblem keeps people from "doubling" the "handsize" benefit of a draw spell while allowing us to further filter for what we need, albeit in a dangerous and very Tibalt sort of way! It also encourages top deck mode since if you don't like what you draw and you have no other cards you can just discard it casting for Madness cost and get another card.
