Tree Man Dipper-

I Beg To Tree Man Dipper

legendary creature- elemental shaman

Dredge 2

whenever Tree Man Dipper attacks, you may have it deal damage to target creature equal to its toughness. If you do, that creature's controller gains life equal to Tree Man Dipper's power.

He came from the Hollowed Ice....

I do too! Although the dredge doesn't tie in too well, so it feels out of place.

The dredge makes this guy too useful, even at this mana cost. He's a boomerang murder spell, which is OP at any reasonable cost.

I would add a sac effect to the attack cost. "When Tree Man Dipper attacks, you may sacrifice a creature. If you do, destroy target creature defending player controls. It's controller gains life equal to Tree Man Dipper's power."

Or just have is deal the damage at the end of combat, so that it can kill potential blockers.

The second ability I would not change. It's almost like a fight ability with a b drawback (when the opponent gains life)

Likely scenario: you attack with tree man, deal 8 damage to their blocker, they gain 4 life, and are dealt 4 damage. So they lose a creature but no life, you end with a tapped creature

I would absolutely put this in my gf's Doran, the Siege Tower edh deck to gain extra value

If people think it's too overpowered then the dredge could go

They may not take any damage overall, but that's still 4 commander damage.

Right.

We don't use commander damage in my playgroup haha

That...is a bad idea.

I would use this guy in a deck, not as the commander. I like Sapling of Colfenor and used her for a bit as a draw engine. She's badass with Well of Lost Dreams

Commander damage is dumb. If you can deal 21 damage; you should be able to deal 40. Some decks focus solely on commander damage, where others would never even come close.

If you're in an 8-person game, do you really want to keep track of seven sets of commander damage plus your own life total? That's two dice for you and seven for everyone else. If all eight people use nine dice, that leaves a lot of room for error/confusion and not much room on the table

@greyninjaon the other hand, please consider this:

many commanders naver even bother to deal damage, and teh who do take 1 or 2 turns to winn if they're playing correctly.

also, you're talking to a guy who had a 6 hour 8 player game of EDh with planechase. :|
