Tribal Support for under used tribes?

Custom Cards forum

In the middle of making frog support with horse and saytar support incoming in the future. Are there any tribes you people would like see more support for, common supported tribes like dragons elves, zombies, goblins, elementals, wizards ect are not to listed. Nor are tribes that have solid support even if there not commonly supported like birds, clerics, snakes ect are also not to be included.

Saytars being satyrs? Would totally love more support for those!

I'd love to see gargoyle support. There are quite a few cool cards from the tribe, but they have neither a lord, nor an appropriate commander.

I really want to see more mole support. There are three moles total, two of which work together quite nicely, and a third that's bad clue support.

Rhino and/or elephant tribal and a boar lord should have been a thing already.

Also, Yeti and Monkey/ape tribal seem to be coming with Jumpstart. 'Tis about time.

I actually made a gargoyle boros commander years ago will look in my MSE files and see what i can do to update him, I'm sure he's bad since it was a card I made before ik much about card design (still learning even now)

For moles yikes only three that makes both easier and harder for me but an interesting challenge

Rhino and elephant hmmmm I'll think about it again I made a elephant commander years before Wizards made Hamza, Guardian of Arashin there frist legendary elephant (I think) but yeah neither really have support for there tribe

Some phoenix support would be nice, a mono red legendary and a few support cards that bring the tribe together.

Spiders could use a few as well. Like phoenixes there are a ton of them, but not a lot to bring them together as a tribe.

Octopuses need a lot of help, I’d love to seek them getting some support.

I would say Oozes, but that's my turf, so I'm going to boost Spiders and Crocodiles.

More centaurs would be nice, btw ;)

Clerics. They're a tribe with a TON of options but historically they're a Tribe without much support.

Stardragon says... #11

Last_Laugh- I said in my intro that clerics are not part of the list as they have plenty of support to make a deck

KibaAlpha same thing with wolves they have plenty of support to make multiple dexk hell I've made a green/white black/green and green/red wolf decks there fine

seshiro_of_the_orochi and Unlife I also made a crocodile commander years ago as well lol. Same as a Jund spider manner and a Boros Phoenix manner. Hmmm some calamari sounds good

TheOfficialCreator- centuars are so.e thing I was also thinking of. Same with Naga and gorgons

November 10, 2022 3:17 p.m.

Naga would definitely be fun!

Last_Laugh says... #13

Stardragon just because there are a lot of clerics doesn't mean there's lords, payoffs, or support for clerics. I tried to build b/w clerics recently and it was dogshit.

TheOfficialCreator I feel like Naga as a creature type was a mistake. They should've been snakes. To split the tribe like that denies both Naga AND Snake decks the support the other offers.

The only argument needed to support this is Aven vs. Bird. Avens in mtg have the creature type BIRD even though they're a humanoid bird same as a naga is a humanoid snake.

legendofa says... #15

Last_Laugh There's some inconsistency with humanoid animals, usually based on whether it's original to M:tG or not. Cats, bears and dogs have their animal typing, but there's Minotaur vs. Ox, Fish vs. Merfolk, and some weird stuff like Octopus vs. Cephalid and Raccoons. So since Naga originates from outside M:tG, it's not completely arbitrary. Just mostly arbitrary.

Hydra, Gorgon, Skeletons, hmm

Minotaur have a ton of lords, but lack a substantive base. There aren't enough "good" cows for Minotaur tribal. So their support just needs to be more normal ones that are battle ready.

Sphinx. It is extremely difficult to make Sphinx tribal.

Last_Laugh says... #17

legendofa except many of the snakes from the original Kamigawa are pictured as naga but typed as snakes. Then they did a 180 and split the tribe for no apparent reason. Meanwhile they don't do that with the other examples you listed or the clear parallel example I provided.

November 10, 2022 6:15 p.m.

legendofa says... #18

To be honest, I'm a little more confused about why the original Kamigawa ones are Snakes. It's not every day you see a six-limbed snake. There's the namesake Orochi, which was a giant snake, but that was notable for having a lot of heads and tails, not arms and legs.

The Naga type was introduced in Khans of Tarkir, specifically with the Sultai Brood. This faction was heavily influenced cosmetically by southern and southeastern Asia, which is where the mythological Naga comes from.

I have no idea why Amonkhet has Nagas, aside from a vague precedent of humanoid snakes.

Honestly, I could go into a lot of detail about why the creature type system is a mess, both biologically and as a categorization method.

TypicalTimmy says... #19

Actually these depictions of the Naga were derived from the Yuan Ti from D&D. True Naga have a more Humanoid top half, like a Mermaid.

As for Amonkhet, the same with Minotaur and Aven. I would likely attribute it to the Egyptian gods being Human-animal hybrids, so the R&D team selected iconic and powerful hybrids to populate the world with <3

(Btw I absolutely love the lean goat design for their Minotaur!)

Would love to see dryads be a thing.

Stardragon says... #21

Last_Laugh- idk what your talking about I it built a cleric BW tribe deck and its great. It's not a tier 1 CEDH deck true but like no tribes are used in CEDH other than goblins, elves and ninjas. I've won some tough matchs with my deck, clerics are a solid tribe hell they have one of the best lords in the game in Edgewalker

Yisan- just build elves like 90% of drayds are elves sadly so you could a double tribe of using only elvish dryads lol

TypicalTimmy- I agree we need more lower cost cows. Hydras... I not so sure than need it unless theres a specific color commander you want.

legendofa says... #23

Stardragon I think Yisan was referring to Dryads, not (what I think you're thinking) Druids.

November 10, 2022 8:24 p.m.

TypicalTimmy says... #24

Between Seton, Krosan Protector and Gilt-Leaf Archdruid, the LAST tribe that needs support is them! X-X

Lol

November 10, 2022 8:31 p.m.

TypicalTimmy says... #25

Stardragon, I think a Naya Hydra-tribal Commander would be pretty slick, honestly.

Bant would also be pretty cool, if a set were built to subvert color expectations.

November 10, 2022 8:39 p.m.

Yisan says... #26

No I meant dryads. Like trostani is a dryad. Dryads and druids are 2 very different things.

November 10, 2022 8:46 p.m.

Yisan says... #27

TypicalTimmyStardragon you guys know dryads and druids are different right? Lols right back at ya.

Yisan your right I mixed up dryad and druids but tbf they pretty much fill the same purpose

seshiro_of_the_orochi I've actually got a phoenix deck for EDH (Torbran, Thane of Red Fell (Chromatic Project)), and I really do enjoy playing it, i just wish I just wish I had a monored legendary phoenix for it (I did try splashing black for just Syrix but I didn't like the feel)

TheOfficialCreator I really like my 4C ooze tribal deck (Saskia the Unyielding (Chromatic Project)), though a few more lords couldn't hurt

Together with some friends, we think about making kind of a farm-deck, so goats, sheeps, cows, chicken...

November 11, 2022 6:25 a.m.

Yisan says... #31

Stardragon so because 2 creature types share a primary color they are the same? You mentioned snake tribal in your original post, why make sake tribal when they are basically just archers, druids, clerics or generic animal tribal. Just build one of those. Your last comment literally defeated the purpose of your original post. Dryads druids what's the point? If that's the attitude then just build one of the commonly built heavily supported tribe and be done with it. Dryads as a tribe have nothing. You wanted under supported I gave it to you.

Yisan- First off I mentioned snake tribal as one the ones I wasn't going to do if you actually read the intro and not glanced at it if you did even that much you would've known that. AS such YOUR argument doesn't hold any water, but to continue this pointlessness Dryads and druids both mostly deal with with mana ramping (there are some Dryads that don't but most do), weather its untapping lands, being dorks or manipulating mana by doubling or tripling the mount or by letting it not empty till a certain point. So i stand by what i said that it's easy to mix the two up. AND I NEVER SAID I WOULDN'T DO DRYADS IF YOU READ MY INTRO YOU WOULD SEE IM MAKING SUPPORT FOR UNDERUSED TRIBES ATM. AND I NEVER SAID "Dryads druids what's the point?" don't put words in my mouth. And ik dryads as a tribe have nothing. "If that's the attitude then just build one of the commonly built heavily supported tribe and be done with it". The fuck are you talking about i assume your just talking out your ass to piss me off well it worked, If I wanted to make support for heavily supported tribes I wouldn't have made this post now would I? I wont be doing them now even though i made a Dryad commander long ago beacuse of your post
