Urza, Master Artificer - 1RWU

Legendary Creature - Human Artificer

Whenever you cast an artifact spell, you may instead counter that card. If you do, you may search your library for an artifact card, reveal it, then put it into your hand. Shuffle your library.

3/4

I designed it to be almost the opposite of mishra, for flavor reasons. Thoughts?

EDIT: Balanced and changed creature type.

I think it being a 3/4 would make it a bit more balanced since the ability is very strong and being a 4/4 for 4 just makes it even more powerful. Especially in the colours of Jeskai.

why is he a shaman?

instead of, say, AN ARTIICER?!

Shouldn't discard be counter? I might be wrong, however. Looks cool though.

Shouldn't Urza be more broken than this? It should read "When you cast an artifact spell, counter that spell. Search your library for an artifact and put it into play. Then untap all your lands. Also you win the game."

NoPantsParade Yes, it should be counter. You can't discard a card that's been cast.

what if it just had "discard an artifact card: tutor for an artifact card" and cut needing mana for it altogether?

Hahaha, TehCoopah got me rolling. True, you're getting the colors and subtypes of Urza wrong. They weren't opposite in methods, very similar in fact, but used the same powers differently. Urza is almost entirely a mono Blue critter. He is also an artificer and not ever a shaman because Urza would never qualify as a shaman.

Urza is fair...? Since when?

What about "search your library for an artifact with the same CMC"?
