Yugioh in MTG
Custom Cards forum

I made a bunch of Yugioh card in Magic's format. While some are 1 to 1 with a few words or effects changed to fit into MTG other are a reimagined card that i feel keeps with feeling of the OG cards. (Most reimagined cards were vanilla creatures). I stop yugioh after the 5D's so most cards are from this older era with one expectation. Even if you don't know yugioh pls feel free to share your thoughs on htem as magic cards. I'll only post a few card since people seem to like smaller threads rather than massive 500 card thread (Like My Monster Hunter Custom Set, more people complained about the length rather that cretic the cards themselves.) Anyway are the first 5 let know what you think of them and if you like a part 2

shadow63 An 8/8 with no downside for three mana seems okay to me, unless you're just talking about the ability. Sacrificing fifteen permanents over five turns is a very steep cost, even for a "you win the game" effect.
And yeah, this Pot of Greed is insane in any deck. It's basically a free Thrill of Possibility. Every Dredge deck will want four, every blue deck will want five, and every other deck will want at least a couple.
Blue-Eyes White Dragon is okay, but I would drop the menace.
Red-Eyes Black Dragon needs some punctuation in the last sentence, but it might be a little too good, as a repeatable one-sided boardwipe, discard, and draw engine. Maybe something like "REBD ETB with a destruction (or whatever) counter." and "Remove a destruction counter from REBD: Each opponent discards and you draw. Activate this ability only if REBD attacked this turn and five or more creatures and/or planeswalkers died this turn." Maybe also "As long as REBD has a destruction counter on it, something good." but that's getting pretty wordy.
Dark Magician also needs some punctuation, but it seems okay. Why is 3 the magic X-value here?

legendofa I completely overlooked that exodia was an 8/8 but yeah its super slow

Your Blue-Eyes is neat, but in this age and day 8 mana for an 8/6 Flying Menace is pretty 'meh', Baneslayer is a joke in Commander, 8 drops see play in Commander if anywhere, and I feel like this isn't impactful enough for a 'play and wait' card. I feel like you ought to throw something else in, but I'm not sure what. Akroma Angel of Wrath is a circa 2003 8 mana 6/6 that comes with 7 keywords, including 2 Protection From effects that cover a lot of removal, Blue-Eyes costs 8 as well, is harder to cast, and you get an 8/6, but you only get Flying and Menace with Pro <4 Creatures only, I suspect even when Blue-Eyes was a new Yugioh card his Magic equivalent should do something more. Maybe Ward or Protection from Instants/Sorceries?
I mostly talk about Blue-Eyes because I used to play a Blue-Eyes deck, it was lots of fun and eventually was one of the best decks in my small meta (I played until Paladin of Blue Eyes was new). That said, the cards I loved the most from Yugioh were the big juicy 'pay life' cards, stuff like Mirror Wall could be devastating (better than Mirror Force if you have a reasonable board!), Solemn Judgement was insane, both were cards people in my meta hated because you paid life (they never noticed that Mirror Wall was a Trap card or something idk, I had played Magic before at least), these were among my favorite cards, at least I got my Judgement really easily, they thought it was a terrible card, I mean, half your life for a better Force of Will, who would play THAT poop tier card (I obviously would lol)? Also, we need Goblin Attack Force as a Magic card, I refuse to settle for a mere Muxus, I want a hardcore gang of Goblin shock troopers that come in and beat serious face, then get lost on the way back home, I guess we'll always have Spectral Bears?

Exoida- Yeah it is steep but I really didn't know what to with him while keeping the spirit of his yugi card. It was 10 permanents at one point but I felt that 10 over 5 turns was to easy to pull off in Golgari as token gen is a real thing in those colors. And while having an alt win con is nice I hated how useless each card was so I made the main body a beatstick at the very least, it maybe too cheap mana wise but I refuse to lower it stats it's exodia, it deserves thicc stats.
As for Blue-Eyes it actually an incomplete card I just couldn't think of anything to it proper justice. I made the Protection from small creatures a thing beacuse I didn't feel like OG highest ATK stat monster should be cump blocked but other than that I'm at a loss.
Dark Magician- Everyone is complaining on how wordy it is it really isn't than wordy at all there way more mtg and yugi cards that way more wordy this. But since no is commenting on the effect itself i guess it's good. As for why X is 3 no particular reason just a good solid number in magic. Side note I want to make Dark Magician Girl as well (we need the yugi Wifu) but I don't how to translate her effect it magic, I may have totally change her effect which ruins her any Ideas are welcome
Red-eyes- It's just a Balefire Dragon with an extra effect tacked on, and you do need 5 or more creatures or walkers to die for it's effect to proc. While technically it is repeatable each turn, it'll be hard for an opponent to continually create 5 creatures or walkers each turn after red-eyes attacks particularly since they lost 2 cards in process to keep the engine running and it has no protection by itself so simple Murder will take care of it.
Pot of Greed- Yeah its busted but I didn't want to make balanced as it balancing it I feel ruins the spirit of what pot of greed is. It banned for reason the best I'll consider is adding an additional blue mana but doing anything eles to balance it would ruin it.

Given that you can summon a Blue-Eyes, Ultimate Dragon by special summoning it when you sacrifice 4x BEWDs, I feel like they should NOT be legendary, as you'll need multiple on the field at a time. Then, Ultimate Dragon is your legend, with an alternative casting cost of saccing the rest.
Why no Enraged Battle-Ox, hmph

Maybe Exodia should trigger on EACH upkeep. Otherwise, on curve, it'll take 11 turns to fully kick off after you hard cast and then wait 4 turns to get 1 token each time.
The amount of disruption it is prone to is immense. Probably needs hexproof on all of it, or like Ward . After all, just 1 removed stalls the wincon.

As i said im only doing a few cards at a time instead of a giant dump so who knows maybe i did make the angry beefcake just didn't post on part 1? Since it seems like no like massive card dump to shift through (again look at my Monster Hunter page on this site if you can still find it) no one said anything about the cards and either whined about the length or so the length was no big deal but no know said anything about the cards so yeah 5-10 card at time
As for blue eyes i was just going to ignore the fusion monsters since while we have meld which is what im think for most fusion monsters, that only works with two creatures So Ultimate, 5 headed and other fusion that require 3 or more monsters are a conundrum so till than no fusion but your right in that because ultimate exist even though it should be legendary white dragon also shouldn't be legendary but till i figure out a way t ultimate and other multicreature fusion a thing we'll keep it as is. Though if have any ideas for effects for blue-eyes let me know it definatlly need some polish

Also you don't alt win cons to proc to easy (i say as poison, and mill self or otherwise are a thing) but i agree that the all of them need some protection ward 7 may be too much but ward 3 or 4 is a nice chunky armor

It's really hard to think of 'on flavor' abilities for cards that openly had no abilities other than 'big dumb beatstick', most things that would reflect an especially brutal/effective creature are potentially out.
I wonder about something like Godsend, where its super good at killing anything that it damages, reflecting it's combat supremacy from LOB era, but it's not like Blue-Eyes does anything special with dead creatures, so I don't love it. That's why I like keywords, at least these are 'French vanilla', maybe just throw on a bunch of keywords to supplement? Dragon Tyrant was kind of the Magic equivalent of Blue-Eyes when it came out, it's incredibly big and comes with built in sacrifice (like Blue-Eyes). Tyrant combines Flying, Trample, Doublestrike and Firebreathing to make an extremely dangerous creature that still feels very 'French vanilla'. In Magic, there are Waterbreathing creatures (that use mana to gain +x/+0), and White has the odd one kicking around (I think every colour does ultimately), you could throw something like that on. I think First Strike would be more on flavor than Doublestrike for Blue-Eyes, but I like combining Menace with Flying (and the pro-weenies), it makes Blue-Eyes very hard and costly to block, but like in Yugioh it doesn't come with Fairy Meteor Crush stapled to it, so no Trample is on theme. Your Pro-Weenies reminds me of good old White card Infinite Authority, this card sees essentially zero play but it reminds me of the effect, since it's so hard on weenies. Authority as an ability would be pretty useful on a creature, definitely not sure if that'd be more printable than Pro-Weenies as you originally posted, but it'd be a nice ability that ends up feeling fairly simple/straightforward.
As for Legendary, the rules/lore there in Magic is very... irregular, and it doesn't make complete sense. IIRC in Yugioh there is only a certain number of Blue-Eyes (from the show?), so you could put a rule on the card 'there may only be X Blue-Eyes on the battlefield at any time', Star Wars CCG used to have permanents that you could have 2 or 3 copies of in play, in addition to stuff you could only have 1 of, the concept would work fine here too, only this could care about both players' boards. Too much hassles?
In regards to Dark Magician, there is a very big concern in regards to the second ability, with spells that either use more than 1 variable, don't use mana for one or more variables (and involve paying a non-mana cost for X), and that re-use the variable (spells costing XX or XXX) are all busted beyond words with it. I like the idea, but there are a lot of X spells that just giving them X=3 wouldn't work. I like the first ability to an extent, but I wish it was smaller/less mana, but it's a clunky Yugioh card so you're stuck making it huge.

Pot of greed is absolutely freaking busted. Dark magician is super strong and his second effect is very wordy. Dakota magician and blue eyes should probably have the elder type as they have existed since ancient Egypt. Exodia just doesn't seem worth it
