At least a way to beat Terminus! (Commander)
Deck Help forum

So i just started a new Commander deck and I'm finding flaws in the style that I would like to overcome. I'm playing Rhys the Redeemed here So, what's the total in play?! and my main goals are kind of narrow but I think highly splashable in this kind of build.
First, I am making this deck highly inclusive of elves. I figure between Rhys' tokens and the mana acceleration that numerous elves bring to the table, the theme is a fine include.
Second, I am attempting a token generation theme in effects like populate and a slew of token making creatures. Alongside cards like Collective Blessing and Gaea's Anthem I feel this theme is a large factor in this deck.
Lastly I'm noticing a theme that pulls me into a realization and a chance for another card inclusion, The theme here being that I have fifteen to seventeen enchantments in this deck, and moreover, I'm very light on non-permanent spells. Being that this is my only green deck, I am feeling a string pull toward playing Primal Surge . There are questions surrounding the mystery of this card for me. How many spells should I play alongside this? Do I want to even be able to break the chain once it resolves? How do I beat Terminus in these colors?
if you've got the time, please stop in and check out my decks. I'm always open to new ideas and feedback! i'm even looking to trade for some stuff to foil out one of them. Thanks for checking this out guys, your answers are eagerly anticipated! NuBByThuMB

Sudden Disappearance seems to be at least a viable way of keeping my commander on the board. Rebuilding an army isn't difficult. I just need to ensure that I can beat a tuck. Bounce isn't so large a problem as ramping is pretty easy.

Primal Surge is a may, so you can stop whenever you want. But you MUST stop when you reveal a non-permanent card. So if you play no other / very few non-permanent spells your Primal Surge should be quite potent. If you do consider running Primal Surge , it usually is rote to try and replace spells with similar enchantments or creatures.

Lapse of Certainty stops it for a turn. You could also go hating on it with Gaddock Teeg and/or Nevermore .

Lapse of Certainty seems REALLY bad because you give the caster a free Miracle trigger.

If I play Gaddock Teeg , It prevents me from casting a fair few of my enchantments. I think Nevermore is a much better choice.

Yeah Lapse of Certainty would mainly be useful if you had something to force a shuffle afterward.

So maybe instead of Austere Command I play Avacyn, Angel of Hope + Nevinyrral's Disk as a reset button? Gotta look for creative ways to replace some instant and sorcery effects. I just added Aura Shards and replaced Aura Mutation . Do you think Shards is enough to warrant removing Sundering Growth and replacing it with a permanent? Cutting it would bring me to a total of eight instants and sorcerys. Should I be concerning myself with Advent of the Wurm and Conqueror's Pledge ?

I would consider Trostani, Selesnya's Voice over Advent of the Wurm , especially if you want to use Primal Surge .
Harmonic Sliver works as a creature version of Sundering Growth , and is even better if you are able to recur or bounce it. Aura Shards is king, though.

I'm already playing Trostani. Didn't actually consider the Sliver. I'll give that one some thought. Do you guys think Coat of Arms and Door of Destinies are options I should be exploiting?

Coat of Arms can be tricky because it's a universal effect.
Door of Destinies
requires you to cast a creature, which you won't really be doing when generating tokens.
You're better off using generic buffs, like Honor of the Pure and Intangible Virtue . Even Angel of Jubilation could be used because it also helps to mess up sac engines.

Ooooooo. I never thought about Angel of Jubilation . I like that a lot. This deck could definitely use more white. Intangible Virtue would actually be a lot better for me than Honor of the Pure. Should I be thinking about some Sterling Grove and Privileged Position effects in this case? Fountain Watch even?

Privileged Position is hard to deal with and it affects everything you control. I'd just use it.
Just noticed you use Sylvan Primordial . That was recently banned, but keep it if your play group allows it.
Champion of Lambholt is great with token strategies, and I'm really surprised you don't have Yeva, Nature's Herald .

This is why these forums rock! Cards I didn't even think about. I wasn't aware Primordial was banned. Too bad. I guess it was inevitable after Prime Time was chopped. Ah well

Unless you counter it, there's no way around Terminus . Tuck and bounce effects exist as a way of getting around indestructible.
There are some round-a-bout ways to avoid it...if you weren't going for a token strategy. Something janky like a sac outlet + Faith's Reward /Second Sunrise gets around it, or cast Sudden Disappearance before Terminus resolves so all your creatures come back at end of turn.
Neither of those work with a token strategy, though, because tokens cease to exist once they leave the battlefield.
