Bachelor Party

Deck Help forum

I'm getting married this year and for my bachelor party my closest friends and I are having an MTG/video game night and I decided to add a spin to it. None of my friends play EDH and they we really don't get to play MTG that often anyway, so I decoded to put together some fun though able to win EDH decks. I'm combining actual cards with proxies as I have to build like 6 decks and don't have a ton of money.

Two of the decks are done for the most part. Yeah I'm a BUG. So What?! and A Babe in Toy Land are BUG and Esper respectively. I wanted to do an Esper, BUG, Grixis, naya, jund and BGW (don't know the "cool" name for that one) but am starting to feel like I bit off more than I can chew.

To save myself some more work I was actually just gonna use my Let the tokens hit the board (HELP) for the BWG but feel like that might be to powerful compared to other decks I'm working on.

Grixis I was going to use Nekusar, the Mindrazer

Naya I was gonna use Marath, Will of the Wild

Jund I'm going with Prossh, Skyraider of Kher

Please help me get back on track.

Nekusar, you're going to be up with DBCD. Underworld Dreams , Teferi's Puzzle Box , that gank.

That's the input I can give.

And congrats man! You're taking a huge step forward in life w/ a marriage! Hope you have a great time with it.

BGW = Morglen. Also along with Underworld Dreams there is a new critter from BOTG. Fate Unraveler . It's Underworld Dreams with legs!

Thanks Avernar. But um.....what's DBCD mean? Lol. Not good with all the common abbreviations.

guerillarage I actually plan on running him although he'll be a proxy unless I pull one.

With the grixis I guess my issue is thinking of a balance. If I go too draw heavy ill have nothing to defend myself with but also don't want a target on my head by my friends.

I ran gatherer for any card in BUR that had "draw" in the text box and the results were um....a tad overwhelming. The number of cards was staggering but the number of really good cards seems iffy. I ran across one whose name escapes me that had that forecadt ability and made everyone draw a card. Not sure about that kind of thing. I'm gonna go for a damage by draw and discard theme i think. So Megrim and Liliana's Caress are going in i think. Unless someone has a better sub-theme i could throw in.

Also how do you think the 2 decks i've already built will hold up against my Morglen ghave deck? (thanks for the name btw)

Also if you could PLEASE get other people in on this convo I would be eternally grateful. I'm hoping with a title like bachelor party at least a handful of people will be intrigued and look. Lol

I think you are thinking of Skyscribing

Bellock86 says... #9

Yes K34. that is exactly the card. Thank you

Just saying, Junk or Necra are more official names for BGW, Morglen is mainly just outdated T/O slang. Not that it really matters :P.

I will say that I do not recommend choosing prossh and nekusar as commanders. Prossh can easily become too OP for a casual group, as so many cards synergize with it so easily, and Nekusar decks have a tendency to become boring very quickly, as basically every card in the deck is the same, and there is very little room for innovation besides choosing which wheel and mine effects you want (btw, not just pulling this out of my head, I've read a number of polls where prossh and nekusar are among the most hated generals.

In the same color combos, I'd recommend Shattergang Brothers for Jund (conveniently still in the C13 precons) and Thraximundar or Gwendlyn Di Corci for Grixis. Again, this is just my advice, feel free to take it or leave it. I hope you have a great time!

Talk to your best man, have him arrange it. Tell him that you want to use the new commander decks. Everyone should buy their's, and a share of yours. At least that is what I would do if my friend wanted something like this. Much much cheaper then most of the bachelor parties I have been to. Strippers and beer can have an exponential relationship.

@Blakkhand ~ not sure I like the chick but Thraximundar looks much more playable than nekusar. Thanks a bunch for that. Now a rules question for him. Would Rooftop Storm let me cast him for 0 regardless of how many times he dies?

February 18, 2014 10:33 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #13

@Didgeridooda ~ lol. Yeah I'll bet. I thought about that but there were only 5 of those decks for C13 and you can't find the grixis one anywhere because of that damn True-Name Nemesis so I doubt I could do that. Thanks for input though.

With Rooftop Storm and Thraximundar , you would still have to pay the additional tax, but you wouldn't have to pay his casting cost.

SOOOOOoooo are you like making cards that say like "pay 3 mana, target, target player does a shot" and what not to mix ino the legit decks? cause that would be hilarious. Enchantment curse, 4 mana, enchanted player makes a mummy costume out of toilet paper and wears it for as long as the curse is attached. Target player can;t swear for the rest of the turn, if they swear they lose the game. Throw in some Unhinged and Unglued cards just cause. Sounds like a blast.

Bellock86 says... #16

It's funny you should ask that DarkHero. Actual cards? no. Too time consuming (says the guy trying to build 6 EDH decks lol). We are however going to have a set of rules attached to the normal rules. Like if a spell you control gets countered take a shot. If a creature you control is removed from play by a spell or ability a opponent controls take a shot (that will make board wipes interesting)

Blakkhand says... #17

ljs54321, that's incorrect. Rooftop Storm works just as awesomely as you think it does, no commander tax required ;).

Makes him very conducive to either zombie tribal or hard control (I prefer the latter :P).

February 18, 2014 11:12 p.m.

Bellock86 says... #18

@Blakkhand ~ that is awesome. I'm actually not usually a control player per say but the zombie tribal sounds better suited to a more casual setting anyway. And I have a crap load of zombies anyway. Lol. But I'm not aware of very many zombies from U or R other than the few that cam out in innistrad block. What would be good examples to fill in gaps aside from obvious stuff like tutors. Also does Splinter Twin + Rune-Scarred Demon create a tutor loop? (obviously once per untap by default but I can fix that.)

ljs54321 says... #19

Blakkhand: According to this thread on the wizards forum, the 2 mana "commander tax" is considered an additional cost, which means it still has to be pais.

February 18, 2014 11:27 p.m.

ljs54321 says... #20

Bellock86: Deadeye Navigator + Rune-Scarred Demon can creat a tutor loop if you can pump out a bunch of mana.

Didgeridooda says... #21

That should be the one they give you. haha Hope you have a great time though.

Yup, you're correct lol. I don't know what I was thinking. :P

If you use thraximundar, you should include Carrion Feeder to combo with him.

Already on that K34. Grave Pact and some token production and sac outlets are already on my list

If you need some ideas for stuff to play with Grave Pact , check out Hey look! A flying squirrel!. It's Jund colors, but hey, 2/3 of those work for Grixis as well lol.
