Bant vs. Naya
Deck Help forum

One of the two decks I'm running in Standard right now is a Bant Hexproof-ish deck. I've been doing decently with it (not going to be tier 1, but it top 8s at FNM), but I am unsure whether the blue splash is worth it. I've mocked up a Naya version here on TappedOut, but I don't want to go out and collect shocks and temples until I am sure (the other cards I already have). So, any opinions on which is better (and why) would be appreciated, as well as comments on the decklist in general for either.

Both of these are Hexproof/Heroic decks, I'm just trying to decide if the deck runs better as Bant or Naya (or maybe even Selesnya). The Naya deck is not a G/R monsters with a white splash, it's more of Selesnya hexproof/heroic with a red splash.

Naya is better because it doesn't get blown out by Supreme Verdict . Most of the lists making top 8 at events are running the full 4 Boros Charm to allow for easy double strike wins and resistance to Supreme Verdict against control. Bant has no answers to Verdict.

Oh that's fine, I will comment on both of the decks then :)

Bant absolutely has answers to Verdict: Rootborn Defenses .

And Bant has access to Prophet of Kruphix , which i think might be the most underplayed card in Standard. Things get out of control quickly and it can absolutely wreck a game.

No one seems to notice that raithe000 is talking about a hexproof deck, where mana usage is crucial. Rootborn Defenses is significantly worse than Mending Touch in a hexproof deck, and Prophet of Kruphix also does nothing in that deck. At all.

Prophet of Kruphix essentially doubles your mana, making it ideal for decks that need efficient mana usage. And just because a deck is hexproof doesn't mean you won't have multiple creatures down together, with multiple auras attached to each. Again, Rootborn Defenses saves your whole board. I think blue is much more beneficial to a hexproof deck than red.

I should note that these decks are also trying to be somewhat aggro, and only run 22 lands. I will rarely have the mana for a 5 drop consistently, which is one of the reasons I am not running Fleecemane Lion in either deck.
@kmcree I run a minimum of creatures, and voltron strategies tend to go better with a single highly buffed creature. Neither Rootborn Defenses nor Prophet of Kruphix are viable in this deck.

For what you want i'd say Naya, and i'd run 4 Boros Charm main instead of the inclusion of Anax and Cymede , not because anax sucks, but boros charm is...just great and it seems like its exactly what the deck needs, protection, but can also as a finisher. I'd seriously also sideboard some Selesnya Charm as theyre also one of the best charms right now.

That's fine if that's what you're going for, but I'm not sure I would recommend that in the current meta. Anything with black will have no problem removing a single creature. You're vulnerable not only to Supreme Verdict but also things like Far / Away and Devour Flesh . So again, I would recommend Bant with a few counterspells thrown in to further protect your creature. Also, Bant has more card draw available to you. The last thing you want is to get 2 for 1d, or even 3 or 4 for 1, and not have any way to refill your hand.

Not sure if you've noticed, but the max number of Devour Flesh still in monoblack is 2 thanks to the printing of Bile Blight , and Far / Away is still not seeing as much play as is deserves to. Hexproof aura decks are fantastic right now for the current meta, and Naya is the ideal color combination and the only one to post successful event results.

Well it depends on what you like doing.
Bant is for more Control or in your case, making White Weenies huge with Ethereal Armor and other enchantments. A very controlling deck, generally not a lot of creatures are run.
Naya is for mana ramping into very large creatures very fast. A very aggressive deck, with a large amount of creatures used.
