So I'm deck brewing here at work and don't know the current benifits of either over the other in a competitive format. no matter what the deck will W/B, i just can't decide weither to splash G or U.

I could advise you a little better if I knew what format you were playing.

Standard format, apologizes for not stating prior

esper has cards like Supreme Verdict , Detention Sphere , and Sphinx's Revelation , which are all outstanding cards. you also get counterspells if you want those. if you go junk, you get Loxodon Smiter , Advent of the Wurm and Abrupt Decay . again, all great cards. personally, id rather go esper, but junk has its merits!

I think it really depends on whether you want to go control or more aggro/creature intensive. Esper is much better for control IMO, with all of the cards mentioned above. Junk, on the other hand, is much stronger for a more creature based aggressive strategy, with cards like Lotleth Troll , Fleecemane Lion , and the others mentioned above. If you gave us a better idea of what archetype of deck your looking to build our advice would be more beneficial.

I'm looking to abuse Ashen Rider , Eater of Hope , and Gift of Immortality as the synergy between them is ridiculous. esper would grant me more longevity and control where as junk would grant me speed, both i feel however would be sudject to removal from red

To be honest, that combo has no chance of being competitive in standard. Its way too slow and bulky, and very easy to remove. If you want to build a casual deck, or possibly an EDH deck, that could work. But in competitive standard you don't really have a chance.

@ kmcree Alright, noted. After having thought on that, what could be done or achieved in a modern format?

You mean with that same combo? Again, too slow and bulky for modern. If you really want to play that combo, its probably best in a casual deck that you play with friends. But it won't win you any tournaments.
