Best way to counter angels?
Deck Help forum

One of my friends runs an EDH angel deck of every color, his deck is very difficult to play against, another friend plays with an EDH green/white deck and an angel as his general, (also difficult to play against) What is the best way to counter their angels?
It would be easier to answer your question if you specified which angels are giving you trouble. Any of them come to mind?

Halo Hunter is the only one that specifically goes against angels. All I can say is board wipe, mass damage, forced sacrifice, and just about any other form of board control. Or if you're not having very much fun playing against them, just ask them if they would consider playing a different EDH deck.

any kind of counter spell and removal. from Supreme Verdict to Wrath of God and everything in between for mass creature removal, Though for Avacyn, Angel of Hope , Tragic Slip or a big Mutilate will work best. For the fun of it, Killing Wave has special flavor text for angels, '... I hate angels.'. Then there are red burn spells also and greens flying removal. It is best to get rid of it before it gets out there, so a strong control aspect, such as Syncopate , Counterspell , Power Sink , Dissipate , Mana Drain all make for great prevention, but a Cavern of Souls naming angels hurts this strategy. There are more than these out there, this is just a sample.

Kill them before they cast their angels? lol seriously I have no idea. Cavern of Souls can put the kibash on your countering shenanigans. Best thing to do is kill them with a removal spell or outright kill them (hard to do in EDH) before they cast their general/angel

run a deck packed with Clone effects, you'll be able to match up to anything they put on the table at a much lower cost leaving yourself room for things like counterspells and kill spells. or just make things plain difficult for them with cards that just tax everything your opponents do like Grand Arbiter Augustin IV

if beatdown is a problem you can always try and kill by combo...

When I ran my deck against a person running a Cavern of Souls stopping my counters, the only thing I could do was bounce my Spine of Ish Sah with Master Transmuter to blow them up. counter out right if you can. Wrath of God or Damnation work great. Force sacrifice, Tragic Slip , Black Sun's Zenith , poison them. Or you can just keep them tapped down a la Merieke Ri Berit and my Hello Sweetie deck. Just like Liliana and Killing Wave I hate angels their such a pain in the arse

Extinction
An-Zerrin Ruins
Circle of Solace
Faces of the Past
Peer Pressure
(with a bunch of changelings in play) Riders of Gavony
Tsabo's Decree
There you go, creature type hosers in every color but green, and with enout creature type manipulation you could even build a pretty legit casual deck around this theme.
Also, lulz, Standardize with any of these.

if you play against them in a 3-way match, pit them against each other and drop Halo Hunter and just flicker it. Just an idea
